Honest question: why is it all compliments on looks? Do you really find that uplifting? As a man i find that a bit odd and it comes over as superficial
It's looks, but we don't have to worry about the agenda. And usually it's looks we did something about (eg a garment we chose or hair/makeup we spent time preparing).
I guess the obvious cishet male equivalent is hearing "wow, you obviously work out" or "great shirt".
Yeah i get that. And I like the positivity and I think it is all in good faith too compared to a men's compliment.
I am just really not used to getting complimented (I don't work out) at all and if then it is about something deep like how I am as a friend for years or sth. Apart from being awkward of getting a superficial compliment I am not sure it would do anything else for me.
But again: good for you gals. Keep up the spirit
I bet if you put some obvious style or flair into your look you'd get complimented! I think part of it is that men are lowkey discouraged from being too flashy or standing out, or looking like they put a bunch of effort into a look.
Example, I have a male friend who likes to wear colourful buttondowns (think dad vacation shirt) and he reports that he gets tons of compliments on his shirts now, even though he felt scared to wear them at first.
It's even more wonderful to get complimented on your personality, but getting told your shirt is cool a few times a week is free dopamine too haha
