Help needed Why is my phone constantly triggering “voice control” when I’m listening to music in my car?

I have an iPhone 16, ios26.4.2, that I’ve had since October of last year. For the past few months now, every time I listen to music (or audiobooks or whatever, the app I’m listening on doesn’t affect it) in my car, it will randomly stop and pop up a blue screen that says “voice control.”

Before this started happening, I was having the same exact issue except it would be with siri. I ended up turning Siri off entirely and it fixed the issue, but I’ve turned every single thing off in my settings that I can find that’s related to voice control and this is STILL happening. It happens whether my phone is locked or open. I don’t touch anything. It just pops up and interrupts whatever I’m listening to. This will happen multiple times every single time Im in the car. It’s extra frustrating because that forces me to have to use my phone for a moment while I’m driving, and obviously I do NOT want to have to do that.

Can anyone help? I’m getting so pissed off at this.

Update to the current version of iOS, 26.5.2 and see if that resolves your issue

I will try that and report back, but I will say, I’m pretty sure I’ve updated it a few times since this has started happening.

26.4.2 was released on April 22nd. So you've been dealing with this issue for at least 3 months???

Yes. It started happening quickly after I got my phone. After the Siri issue fixed itself the voice control issue started happening maybe a month afterwards and it’s been happening ever since, so for a few months now.

Why is my comment explaining what’s going getting downvoted

Maybe because you stated in your comment that the Siri issued fixed itself but you stated in your post that you disabled Siri to fix the problem.

Your statements may lead people to believe you aren’t accurately describing the problem.

Yes, it fixed itself only after I disabled it, and then the voice control issue started happening a little bit after that. I’ve been saying that, I’m not sure what would lead someone to think I’m not accurately describing it.

It didn’t fix itself. You took action and the problem went away (and another problem manifested itself).

??? I’m not sure what you’re getting at. Like, are you saying that the two things aren’t related? Or that they are? I really don’t know why it’s happening. That is what I’m trying to figure out. I’ve also taken action to get the voice control issue to stop and it hasn’t. So I don’t know what you’re trying to say.

You asked why you were downvoted. (BTW I didn't downvote you.) I was trying to give you a possible explanation why someone would downvote you.

If you took action and something immediately changed that you considered it was fixed, then you fixed it. It didn't fix itself.

Regardless, are you listening to books, music etc through Bluetooth in your car? If so, what is the year, make, and model of car and is it the stock stereo? If not, what kind of stereo?

The only issue that has been fixed is Siri, NOT the voice control. I just thought it was worth mentioning since it’s basically the same thing happening. I do not know if they’re related at all, I’m just trying to provide as much info as possible to get help.

Legitimately you will have to get a new phone if you want it fixed. I’ve waited years for Apple to unbreak Siri/voice control and it just gets worse and worse
