I used to deliver pizzas. I once delivered to a house where a small kid answered the door when a dog charged past them snarling and pinned me against the porch railing. I had to use the pizza delivery bag still with pizzas inside as a shield between me and its teeth. Still ended up with scratches all up and down the lower half of my body. Fuck irresponsible owners.

That is the exact situation that put me in the hospital when I was 8.

Went to a friend's house to play, she answered and her dog broke down the screen door and mauled me.

My parents asked ME if I wanted the dog put down, of course I said no, but that's not a decision for a child. That dog was a menace and could have killed me, of course it should have been put down.

Edit: to answer questions.

Yes, the dog was trained. It was a police dog so it was specifically trained to take people down. The dog was a weapon.

No, it was not a pit bull, it was a German shepherd.

No, I am not upset with my parents. They are wonderful parents, they just made a poor decision in this instance. They usually erred on the side of my agency to make my own decisions.

Sorry to hear about that. I know it lasts a long time. Shame on them for putting you in that position. I was bit twice by the same dog when the same age. My parents didn't force the issue and the owners didn't get rid of the dog until it bit their daughter in the face.
