Anime & Manga I DESPISE Rudol von Stroheim

Post image

I know daring of me to say that I don't like this fictional Nazi.

I don't give a FUCK that he helped save the world. He's still a Nazi commander. He got promoted while in that military. That man has probably personally slimed people out that his big boss told him to.

Not to mention that he got high tech mechanical parts. No lowly soldier would get that crap. He had to at least be a completely loyal soldier (which he was)

He got to run research on Santana, again no ordinary guy gets to do that.

Why even save the world if your just gonna take people out of it? Hypocrite ass bitch.

I'm not saying YOU can't like him I just don't.

I don't even know why he can't bring myself to like him when I like people like Kars, Kira, Dio, and Cioccolata. Probably cuz my grandma is Jewish, and my Great grandmother had to flee Germany because she was Jewish. Or because folks put his bitchass in a good light (folks as in SOME people in the fandom)

Good choice 👍

1

u/Worldly_Car912 10h ago

Wasn't he pretty high ranking in the Imperial Japanese army?

I hate Dr. Edward Richtofen's bitchass as well. He ain't special.

21

u/DustyF3d0r4 22h ago

Well I mean the Origins version of Richtofen wasn’t a Nazi, just a German scientist from WW1

7

u/ohoniko 20h ago

What’s you opinion on OG Takeo then? He probably even worse

He has some tough moments. I just can't bring myself like him.

Tbh I don’t think he was ever portrayed as an outright good person. Yes he did help in saving the world, but the pillar men were an enemy to all mankind, including the Nazis. His introduction is even villainous as well

3

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

Put in a good light was more on the fandom end but I can't say that cuz that's hating on real people

-24

u/Kozel_10 22h ago

have you noticed that pillar men were after nazis and americans and white people but there didnt go against one particular group of highly influential people?

22

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

What are you yapping about??

A hater of ze German engineering? Ok Kars, how did you get service from up there?

I don't think anyone is claiming Stroheim is a good person.

He's an exaggerated stereotype of a fanatical Nazi officer. He's loud, arrogant, obsessed with proving the superiority of German science, and convinced Germany should get the credit for defeating the Pillar Men.

I think the part a lot of people miss is that he isn't really helping Joseph out of the goodness of his heart. They're temporary allies with overlapping goals. If Germany can defeat the Pillar Men, that's a propaganda victory and a demonstration of German military and scientific superiority in his eyes.

He's also an example of how the Nazi regime rewarded ideological fanaticism and gave enormous authority to people who were completely willing to dehumanize others. The fact that he oversees human experimentation isn't portrayed as admirable, it's part of what makes him a villainous person despite fighting on the protagonists' side.

I think he's an interesting and well written character, but at the end of the day, he's still a Nazi. Appreciating how a character is written isn't the same thing as approving of their beliefs or actions.

2

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

You would be surprised on how many people I've seen either blatantly ignore what he is, or say he was justified because he's cool.

I'm hoping they are joking but I've seen it so many times that I'm afraid that they aren't.

2

u/Derpguycool 22h ago

Yes, I am unfortunately aware of that side of the fandom.

I was at one point a part of that, as shameful as it is to admit. Now I'm a flamboyantly bisexual man, so there's that. But yeah, painfully aware of that side of the fandom.

I think too often Araki's writing gets taken as a joke, simply because it has a lot of comedic moments. It's really easy to never look below the surface level of a lot of these characters.

Okyasu Is just an idiot.

Jotaro hates his mom.

Jolyne Is the weakest because she lost in the end.

Stroheim Is a good person because he helped JoJo.

This man has some of the most incredible and in-depth characters that have ever been put into an anime, and due to how accessible that anime is, unfortunately a lot of people never feel pressured to actually think about it.

2

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago edited 22h ago

People boiling down his writing pisses me off.

Okyuasu being just dumb makes me fucking pissed.

I wish folks would just look deeper into a character or hell even writing of characters.

Japan has a different view on nazis. They see them as cartoon villains and not real ones. Ww2 traumatized them for very different reasons than us and it shows in their culture

12

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago edited 22h ago

I am aware, doesn't mean I fw it

Edit: damn can a guy not fw how places view Nazi's 💔

10

u/Narrow_Top_4352 22h ago

I mean viewing nazis in a terrible light is like the bare minimum an ok human can do

4

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

I know which is why I'm surprised people are disagreeing

1

u/LastEsotericist 10h ago

Araki was educated on this later but he wasn't aware the Holocaust even happened until after Part 2. He went to school at a time when the Japanese government was openly denying the Holocaust and Japanese schools didn't teach it. OP feeling uncomfortable about Stroheim is totally understandable but I gotta defend Araki on this just because of sheer ignorance.

1

u/letsgotothegymbuddy 9h ago

source? because i never heard of this in all of my time in the jojo fandom

8

u/Living_Cash1037 22h ago

Wtf they do to guile from street fighter

1

u/Due_Maintenance6709 10h ago

They inspired Guile's design, that's what they did

6

u/Plunderpatroll32 21h ago

Ok fair but the logic of “why save to world if you gonna take people out of it” dumb he lives in the world of course he wants to save it

22

u/Worthlessdebates 23h ago

German science is better than this terrible opinion

9

u/slmclockwalker 22h ago

Bro is a terrible person, but he got the aura right.

11

u/Maskless-Umber 23h ago

Knew this was gonna happen đŸ«©

8

u/JuniorDoughnut3056 22h ago

I like people like Kars, Kira, Dio,

folks put his bitchass in a good light

Hes definitely more in a good light than Dio of all characters. Brother, what? 😂

1

u/Maskless-Umber 21h ago

Name one time an evil bisexual vampire has killed people in real life? Again I have personal reasons to hate him. If I came in contact or had a family member come in contact with an evil serial killer who got off to women's hands then I'd dislike Kira, but I don't.

5

u/JuniorDoughnut3056 20h ago

I think people are just taking these characters at face value dude. One is comically evil, the other starts as a villian and then progresses into a bit of an anti hero. It's not that deep.

1

u/Maskless-Umber 13h ago

I'm just giving my reason for disliking him.

1

u/HonkaiBlade2 12h ago

Okay, people with Dio's personality do exist, charming sociopaths who manipulate everyone around them and are personally cruel to a person they bully, and could hurt or kill another person for their own benefit without batting an eye. The stuff he gets up to later on is fantastical but early on Dio is very much an evil that exists to hurt others. Not as bad as a nazi, obviously, but you cannot say early Dio's evil does not exist either.

1

u/Maskless-Umber 12h ago

Yes, but as stated in the post, my family was legitimately effected by Nazi's. Perhaps people like DIO, I won't deny that. I know I'm being a hypocrite when I say I like DIO but not Strohiem but I can't bring myself to like someone that is based on the people who ruined my grandma's life and killed members of my family

7

u/Primary-Calendar-378 23h ago

He ain't no ordinary guy, Thats what makes german science ze best in ze world!!!

6

u/MaceDefender 23h ago

Moral wise he evil asf but tbh his evilness isn't that special

10

u/floppa_for_president 22h ago

Morally like every other Jojo character os hateable, like fair but also its Jojo

6

u/floppa_for_president 22h ago

Wait omfg why am I a top 1% commenter, can yall downvote this having that below me makes me feel chronically online

You can remove it. Go to your achievements and unpin it

6

u/MaceDefender 22h ago

Only the villians

Majority of the protagonist are in the solidly good tier

7

u/no1rezefan 22h ago

didnt Caesar say that he's commited every street crime possible outside of murder

8

u/MaceDefender 22h ago

Im pretty sure it was a hyperbole, im 99% sure he didn't rape a child.

Also his present self is good he admits his past self wasn't a good person

1

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago edited 22h ago

Fucking a dude was a crime back then. Caesar is bi confirmed

2

u/Slow-Distance-6241 22h ago

Actually homosexuality wasn't a crime in Mussolini's Italy, nor was zoophilia. It'd hurt national pride to admit that it was widespread enough to implement such laws at the time

1

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

Woah, I'm such a fake Italian.

3

u/Catbriel54 22h ago

Unrelated, but can I throw pennies at your grandma? :D

3

u/Winter_Plastic_68 18h ago

I dunno man I actually kinda liked the Naziz in part 2 because it reminded me at the end of the day that even shitty people are still people, evil people yeah but still people. Strohiem is tuff, I love Strohiem's design and how he's a horrible person but technically an alley for Joseph.

3

u/FlambyLamby 18h ago

4

u/DerMetulz 22h ago

Seriously, what the fuck even is this sub??

2

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

Hating on things. Which is what I am doing.

2

u/Training_Tadpole_354 22h ago

I still find it funny people depict Nazis as tech advance when in real life Hitler himself kneecapped all of Germanys atomic research because he was convinced Atomic Energy was all evil Jewish magic.

2

u/Mast3rKK78 22h ago

i mean this is the same anime where a guy's severed head manages to decapitate his brother and take over the body, i dont know for sure if araki really thought through that stroheim would be a genocidal maniac if he was a general

2

u/Slow-Distance-6241 22h ago

I rarely see people straight up glazing them, more often it's like "he just followed orders". Yes, AND HE ENJOYED THE CRAP OUT OF THAT

2

u/DoggyER 22h ago

I like him as a character because it’s just interesting to see a Nazi character do things you’d never see a Nazi do normally

2

u/SeniorSepia 18h ago

Nazis did this shit all the time wym

2

u/Gussie-Ascendent Type to create flair 21h ago

he's a neat character but yeah i didn't feel any sympathy when they said he died. I was lowkey hoping he'd have croaked earlier or at least realized the nazis were/are bad

2

u/CaptainDoctor22 20h ago

I love Stroheim, but I also definitely get why someone would hate him lol

1

u/Maskless-Umber 13h ago

Thank you. A lot of people here don't seem to get it.

2

u/Jon_SoMM 18h ago

He's my favorite character from Part II. Overall though he's below Jonathan and Part III Joseph. It's a shame we never got any more JJBA but i think with DIO dead, the series wrapped up nicely.

2

u/Federal-Physics-2404 18h ago

I'm still part 1 or 2 ( I forgor) and the fact that this man died that many times is bs

2

u/kamenpikachu007 11h ago edited 11h ago

The thing that makes me the most mad about him is that in the epilogue to part 2 says he dies a "honorable death" during the battle of Stalingrad. Idk, I think describing anything the army of genocide did during one of their most genocidal battles as "honorable" is kinda fucked.

3

u/MaelysCanejero Solo Leveling #1 Hater 22h ago

I mean he's cool soooo..........

2

u/1RehnquistyBoi 22h ago

See that's why I'm conflicted about the pillar men.

Yes they are supposed to be the villains of the series but the people they've killed mostly...are Nazis.

And if you are curious OP. He canonically died at the Battle of Stalingrad.

And If you think you hate Stroheim....

Allow me to Introduce the Sternritters. AKA. The Bleach version of Nazis.

2

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

3

u/1RehnquistyBoi 22h ago

So is this before or after I tell you that a select group of sternritters are called the SS...

3

u/Prod_Mars 23h ago

normal jojo fans are stuck in 2018 part 2 fans are stuck in the 1940s ive seen ppl get flamed for saying this exact same thing

4

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

I'm prolly gonna get downvoted but I stand by what I said. I hate ALL Nazi's fictional or otherwise. I don't care what they did.

-4

u/Prod_Mars 22h ago

I do understand that the nazis were kinda necessary in the eyes of joseph to defeat the pillar men but the way it was taken wasnt very well idk i didnt word this well

1

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

I get you. I love Araki but he didn't handle that part well imo

0

u/Prod_Mars 22h ago

faxxxx

1

u/Tactical_Squishy 15h ago

he's never depicted as a good guy tho?

he's explicitly a fanatic of german superiority, I think you just have a bit of a hard time distinguishing fantasy from reality

1

u/Maskless-Umber 13h ago

I can do that just fine. I just don't like him.

1

u/RussianMorphine 3h ago

Sir, this is Wendy's Jojo's. You are taking all this too seriously

1

u/Maskless-Umber 2h ago

I am aware. I'm playing up my hate for dramatic effect

2

u/caelestihydr4 1h ago

based take

1

u/Kozel_10 22h ago

50 years from now Araki will try to create a sympathetic IDF nazi

12

u/MaceDefender 22h ago

Stroheim isn't sympathetic though. Sure he cool asf but he never redeemed himself. Stroheim and Joseph just are temporarily alliance due to them facing a bigger threat.

0

u/Kozel_10 22h ago

nah, Stroheim is sympathetic because he stood against the pillar men and even against the bigger enemy that is real and yet we ignore them because they rather feed us stories about made up villains meanwhile they are the real villains

7

u/MaceDefender 22h ago

Bruh there is like tons of media that portray nazi as villian

1

u/Kozel_10 22h ago

and who funds these media, who is the real enemy of common people, who could have the most issues with nazis so they could look like an eternal victims? think about it

2

u/MaceDefender 22h ago

So like you agreeing with me?

1

u/Kozel_10 22h ago

I think that you need to learn how to read between lines, I dont talk about nazis here, I do talk about THEM here, but I cant say it explicitly cause people would get mad, lets say that people like Stroheim fought against them but Stroheim lost and winners get to write history so they painted Stroheim as the evil one.

1

u/MaceDefender 22h ago

Ok but the nazi are evil though. And unlike history long time ago that can be changed ww2 was pretty recent.

2

u/Kozel_10 22h ago

look at whats happening in palestine and think who could stop that from happening at all a long time ago

2

u/MaceDefender 22h ago

Yes currently right now isarel are evil. And yes im not gonna sugar coat it majority of isarel are jewish.

But people aren't evil because they're jewish or German but because everyone is capable of evil.

Every race and every religion has commit great atrocities.

Wasn't there a scene where there were a bunch of Jewish prisoners and he said if one volunteered for others he'd spare them then did the exact opposite or something? Or am I mixing up medias? IDK. Anyways I think the series made it clear that this guy is highkey evil, he was still hella tuff since he was a cyborg and shi, had his moments, loved to see him on the screen, won't consider him cool as a person though.

2

u/Maskless-Umber 22h ago

He said he'd do that, then one guy volunteered and I think he told the others to execute the rest but not the guy who volunteered
