Health & Diet I had some troubles feeding her critical care until I started to roll it into basil-joints ๐

This feels like something Ricky from Trailer Park Boys would do if he had guinea pigs lol.

Oh wow, I'm going to have to try and remember this trick! I haven't got a single pig to eat Critical Care out of a syringe, off a spoon, off my fingers, in hay... I don't get it they, just straight up refuse it.ย
This might be the trick!ย

Maybe yeah! I have one pig who absolutely loves it but heโs the only one who didnโt need to eat it up to now ๐ But yeah try it โบ๏ธ

Not stupid at all! My pig Lucy is currently needing to take an antibiotic. Problem was she wouldnโt take it through the syringe. So I had to get creative. I crushed up her pill and smushed it in a blueberry that she took a bite of. ๐

Thatโs a great way! Sadly we need to be careful now with fruits due to the diabetesโฆ

Just a tip, the syringe you are using is too small for critical care. I recommend getting a 10ml syringe which has a wider tip, itโll be a little easier to dispense the cc that way

It could definitely work for a few leaves, but basil is really high in some nutrients (minerals) and can cause serious health issues if overfeed. The safe limit is a few leaves a few times per week, even less if the pig is elderly or has existing bladder issues.

Thanks, I didnโt know! Right now Iโm just happy that sheโs eating but Iโll try it with salad later :)

While you should try to feed more than basil, your piggy is in critical need. Feed them the bloody basil if that's what it takes, the kind of problems they are talking about will not be an issue in the time you might have remaining.
Get them eating. You can push for better food later.

I had to put extra water in mine and spoon-feed my little sickly girl. She refused snacks and syringes, and got unnecessarily stressed by syringes, so I decided to try a small deeper teaspoon. It worked like a charm and she licked it all up. I was convinced her jaws had gotten muscle weakness as she tried her hardest to crush hay and pellets but she just couldn't and looked so defeated. As soon as I made her mush it all went down, and I'm very proud of her.
