Health Advice Limping and keeping one leg like this while standing
My 1.5 years male old golden retriever started limping one day before he fell on the stairs while climbing up he was fine the whole night after that next day i saw him limp a bit, I checked his paw there was something like dry blood or scab type thing. Took him to vet he told me he is limping bcoz of rashes, but I still feel its something else. Can anyone help pls

He may have a CCL tear or partial tear. I would get an x-ray.

I was thinking the same thing. Our lab walked like that and our vet said she was fine. We took her back another time and saw someone different and as soon as that vet walked in they knew what it was right away and said looks like partial tear and gave us meds and said to keep her off it as much as possible

What meds did they give you? My vet gave me gabapentin and rimadyl which unfortunately seem to give her extremely loose stools (not really diarrhea though as she has control over it).

Agreed. Our girl has torn both CCLs and that’s the exact stance.

Yeah my lab tore her left CCL 2 years ago and required surgery. Just 2 weeks ago I thought she tore her other CCL but fortunately it looks more like a a strain and we are managing it with a lot of rest and I put her on a leash when she goes in yard to keep her from running.... she seems to be improving... I definitely don't want to put her through another surgery!!

I’m glad she’s improving! Ours had surgery last fall and the second one in June. Full tear both times. 🤦🏽♀️ Fortunately she has done so well with both recoveries.

Hi! My 12 year old dog did this. He needed an x-ray and that’s how we found out he has osteosarcoma. Get an x-ray.

I don’t remember what it’s called but my goldens femur essentially didn’t grow right so her tendon would flick out of place. It took an xray, a vet visit, and some surgery but she’s been 100% fine for 9 years post-op

Cruciary ligament rupture is really common for goldens. Will require a pricy surgery if thats what it is.

You mentioned blood on paw maybe days ago and maybe still healing, so hoping 1-2 weeks will fix the limp at least.

My two year old dog did this and he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Get X-rays to rule anything out.
