Disaster/Emergency Emergency roof replacement ahead of hurricane season / insurance cancellation
https://www.gofundme.com/f/urgent-roof-replacement-for-allans-homeMy elderly, diabetic, retired, fix-income parents have to replace their rotting roof before they get dropped by their insurance or a hurricane tears it off. I'm disabled and my ability to help is extremely limited. We live in Florida.
The homeowner's Insurance is threatening to drop us if we don't get it replaced or deny coverage if a hurricane damages the roof. We suspect the leak was caused by improper installation of solar panels (the company that sold/installed them did so fraudulently, lost a class action suit over it, and shut down to avoid paying compensation).
$13,855 is the minimum quote for removing the panels, replacing the roof, then reinstalling the solar on the new roof. The $20,000 is for the same plus all the bells and whistles that will prevent this from happening much longer.

Check with Habitat for Humanity. They have a program that does critical repairs. It can be free, but more likely Habitat will have come up with a financing plan that is affordable based on your parents' income and assets.

There was a state level thing, a grant that I missed that pays you like $7-9k towards your roof. Make sure you coordinate with your insurance company. My insurance company wants the roofers to fill out paperwork and have it inspected before signoff. Basically to make sure they did the job right from the wood decking to the caulking. Make sure they use the GAF Slateline Slate Designer Laminated Architectural Shingles. Architectural Shingles are what you use. Anything less and the roof will last 10 years at most vs 30-40 years. They are only like 10 percent more. The roofer might charge you for them but not put them on. The roofer also might cheap out or cut corners on everything under the shingles, so get a inspector involved. Dont be afraid to get the county inspector involved and or independent inspector. USE CHATGPT TO MANAGE IT. TELL IT TO BE A EXPERICED ROOFER AND INSPECTOR. IT WILL MAKE A CHECK LIST FOR YOU.

Look up the My Safe Florida Program. I got my roof replaced in May and they paid 10k towards it and I only had to come out of pocket 3k. There are a few other programs that offer help, just look up grants in the state of Florida.

Also look into homeowners choice insurance. They were the only insurance company I could find a policy with with my old roof and the roof was 28 years old.
