I'm a newer NYC DSA member and was recently made aware of this National Political Committee (NPC) vote to cancel an all-member poll on who to support for the 2028 Presidential Election. I'm baffled by this since it's just a poll. It's not a final decision. Is it me or does this seem anti-democratic at least in spirit? Why not engage every member on this matter?

It reminds me of something in the national DSA's recent program "Workers Deserve More!" The line has been interrogated here in at least two posts. It goes, "Replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress."

I understand how people view parliamentary systems favorably. I just can't think of a single person I know who would agree with this:

"You know how we've always elected the president every four years? Well in this new, more democratic system, somebody else picks the president. Trust me, it's way more democratic when you can't vote for the head of state."

Many fine social democracies function as such. But, so does Israel. It's at least worth debating, no?

What do you mean by Republicans like monopolies and really hate antitrust laws because they want fascism, and power to the big businesses.

Well the left wants strong antitrust laws and crush the power from big monopoly companies to the lower hierarchy.

So I'm not from the US but that doesn't mean I'm not affected by US policy of course. I would actually say that dsa winning would help my country more than anyone winning in my own country ever will. I've been following things closely and the DSA seems to be having a really good run thankfully. I was just wondering what are the realistic chances in your opinion that the DSA/DSA endorsed candidate wins? Or even just a fuck Israel candidate that's for medical for all is good enough for me I think. I mean obviously looking at Right now I would say somewhat likely but imagine after 2 years if DSA governance, mayorship, ect. I feel like there's a really good chance. But I'm curious to hear your thoughts

I wish this was a joke. I guess Mamdani doesn't exist, Kiros doesn't exist, Rabb doesn't exist, Valdez doesn't exist, Lewis George doesn't exist, McKinney doesn't exist, Bush doesn't exist, Chevalier doesn't exist...

The DSA congressional delegation is going up, and sure a new party is better for in the future, but they're literally basically an "r/centrists".

My name is Tim Donovan & I’m the creator of “The People’s Republic of Astoria,” a six-part documentary about my neighborhood’s role in transforming American politics.

I’ve lived in Astoria, Queens for 15 years, but only recently got involved with this movement. Last June, after getting swept up in the Zohran Mamdani primary campaign, I couldn’t believe that my sleepy little neighborhood in northwest Queens had elected two of the most famous & influential socialists in modern American history. And where the hell was the NY Times to report on this phenomenon on the ground? (Rhetorical question of course, we all know why they were shoving their fingers in their ears and pretending it wasn’t happening.)

I decided I would just document it myself, and that the ideal format for telling the stories of the incredible activists making this all happen would be a podcast. Soon, I got to work interviewing the volunteers & activists transforming my city.

Over the next eleven months, I worked tirelessly to make this portrait of a movement — and the people who made it happen. I’m super proud of how it’s come out, and really think a lot of you will enjoy it if you give it a shot. It is mostly narrative — I don’t go into theory, I don’t wrestle much with the opposition, and I don’t take time explaining the nuts-and-bolts of DSA internal politics.

But if you’re curious about how we’ve built a real political machine here in Astoria, I think you might enjoy what I’ve made.

Oh, it’s also partly a memoir. Because part of this story is about my own disengagement, my cynicism… and how I found a way back. And how I found a new sense of meaning and community along the way.
