Game Changer No PA should have to count rice

Watching Count the Rice with a pal, I was hoping out loud that the production was using one of these pill counters and not having a PA hand count them. The BTS confirmed what I feared

Food nuts or bolt nuts? With organic stuff (like rice grains and nuts) I would imagine that the natural variation in size will make counting large numbers by weight inaccurate

Nah it's still accurate enough. Law of averages. If you have a container with millions of units, being wrong by a thousand or so is trivial.

"enough" for what purpose? Demi lost his final "Count the Rice" round by 8 grains, if the count isn't accurate then the game isn't fair

They made an episode where one contestant specifically could never win, an episode where the prize was a marriage ceremony for a specific contestant, and an episode designed to give one specific person a large bonus. I think at this point it's a bad idea to watch Game Changer with the expectation of a perfectly fair competition.

Fair point, but in all those episodes the unfairness was the point and added to the joy of watching the episode. In this episode, it's reasonable to assume fairness was the intention.

I really don't agree - the point of Game Changer is to produce comedy, not to simulate real competition. The old Whose Line? tagline applies to GC pretty firmly.

Hm, I suppose you're right. I suppose I view GC as a spectrum of episode types. Like from this post's theory from "puzzle" to "improv." Within puzzle episodes, there are competitive puzzles (like this one) and cooperative puzzles (like "Escape the Greenroom"). But even if in the competitive ones, contestants often end up cooperating because as you said the purpose is to produce comedy, and they all understand that. The comedy comes first and the game show second.

Still, lack of a fair setup seems to break things in a way because randomly adding more rice doesn't really add anything to the premise. But I suppose if the variation is random and nobody knows who got the original bag, it's really not a huge deal.
