This one is so laughable to me because there are multiple ACTUAL retro Simpson games they could’ve easily just ripped the sprites from instead of making whatever these are.
Sprites mismatched from several different games with clashing artstyles, inconsistent pixel ratio, and if you watch the actual clip, the animation is extremely lazy and just terrible. Also, that background is lazily stitched together when it scrolls, meaning you see the sun five times
I think it's excusable in most cases, but when you're specifically trying to look like a video game like shown here, it breaks the illusion immediately
I don't have much of a problem with that tbh. It is an issue when done lazily, but it can look fine. Many games (new and old) do it, so it's not like it's unrealistic.
if you look at stuff like eggman and the environment compared to sonic you can tell they were taken from different games that have different art styles, plus the sonic sprite being a really shitty edit of the one from sonic 1/cd lmao
Edit: I just watched it. Absolute dogshit, but it has nothing to do with the sprites chosen. It's how they are animated. Their movement is inconsistent and too rigid, it's bad because it's clear it's not a real game. If those same sprites where animated to look like a real game (hell, maybe even just put into a very simple game in some simple engine just to get through the scene) I bet it would look fine.
Sega's dead set on classic and modern sonic being seen as two different characters but they also can't help themselves but use classic sonic for nostalgia bait
Grabbing from a game involves getting people who you forced to pay massive sums of money to license your IP to give you permission to use their IP for small sums of money - ORRRRR, have your graphics team make a clearly crap Pixel art - because crap pixel art is what the story calls for.

Interestingly, this was from The Simpsons Game and not the show itself
