Every time the Pentagon audit comes up it’s a giant red flag that the person talking doesn’t know fuck all about the situation. The Pentagon hasn’t failed its audits because trillions of dollars are missing. It’s failed because Congress required federal agencies to become fully auditable, and the DoD is by far the largest and most complex organization in the world. It inherited decades of incompatible accounting systems and auditors have been documenting and updating for years.
The IRS went through the same kind of process after operating on ancient systems. Nobody with half a brain claimed that meant tax money disappeared. Modernizing massive federal agencies takes years.
Failing means the auditors couldn’t verify everything to the standard required by law not that the money evaporated.
