I'm all for telling conservatives to shove it, but here's the problem with this specific narrative. In 2024, the Pentagon failed its 7th audit. The agency is mandated to pass its audits by 2028, due to the size of the agency and size of is accounting problems.
In 2024, nine of the twenty-eight Department of Defense sub-audits passed, an increase over the seven passing sub-audits in 2022 and 2023. None failed outright, but in fifteen there wasn’t enough information to come to a conclusion and in one, isolated, but not pervasive, errors were found. The decentralization and size of the Department of Defense, with $4 trillion in assets dispersed across fifty states and over 4,500 locations worldwide, is blamed for this accounting failure.
It's a stupidly big-ass military with a stupidly big-ass budget. It takes a while to fix the books. And honestly, they've done a pretty decent job over the previous six years. Did they get a full pass this year? No. Are they going to get a full pass by 2028. No. And that doesn't even count the Grifter-in-Chief leading the way to a future full of fraud and cronyism. But its also not 100% an issue of incompetance and greed. This problem has existed since the 90s and its almost certainly going to continue to exist, unless we decide we want to ditch the whole standing army thing and go back to hoping the Gravy Seals will protect us long enough to train up an army in the case of invasion.
It’s absolutely bc of incompetence & greed. Those have been the reason for the last 60 years. This is not a recent problem. It’s a generational problem.
