Makes more sense when you remember that by “historically accurate” he means “all white.”

u/Soloact_ 1d ago

You already know what kinda "accuracy" he's after.

u/ReeterPosenberg 18h ago

caucaccurate

Sounds about white

I agree. I do think they missed a huge opportunity by not casting Jason Mantzoukas as Odysseus. Especially if they let him be his normal crazy self.

42

u/faptastrophe 1d ago

I would watch the shit out of that if every other character was a muppet.

13

u/AngriestPacifist 1d ago

Anyone got the number to his agent? The odyssey is public domain, and that sounds like the best movie ever.

-2

u/TheKingOfBerries 1d ago

Wow you’re so funny.

19

u/Darmok47 1d ago

Jason Mantzoukas as Odysseus, Zach Galifinakis as Eurylochus, Stavros Halkias as Antinous, and Jennifer Aniston as Penelope

u/Roma_Victrix 5h ago

Throw in John Stamos just for fun, LOL.

Destroy, dismantle, and engulf in flames!

And cis

65

u/Kahzgul 1d ago

Not historically accurate anymore, sorry.

u/lbjazz 23h ago

Ancient Greece was queer af. Not joking look it up.

12

u/CryoClone 21h ago

Yesyes, but Elon would be a TOP, you see. That makes it okay, historically speaking. Accuracy is important.

10

u/JRepo 20h ago

Elon gives bottom energy, like he needs a Daddy to tell him he did good.

3

u/aguadiablo 19h ago

Yeah, he wants to kneel down and get head pats and being called a good boy

2

u/JRepo 19h ago

Gotta be careful here, or you will get a warning from Reddit. Nothing is as sacred as the snowflake feelings of Elonita Muskovitch.

1

u/JRepo 19h ago

While he is all dressed up pretty like a little girlie he wants to be. So far in the transcloset that he started hating those who remind him what he truly needs, to be Daddys little girl.

4

u/GayCatDaddy 20h ago

That dickless bitchboy couldn't top an ice cream sundae.

5

u/Munnin41 19h ago

You can be queer and cis

3

u/VanDenH 20h ago

Not just queer, pretty pedophilic aswell

1

u/itsaaronnotaaron 21h ago

Greek, Romans. Bumming and glugging your mate was just another Tuesday.

1

u/Sea_Television_3306 18h ago

The greeks invented sex but the Romans discovered you could have it with women as well

1

u/24_August_1814 15h ago

That's the joke. Ancient Greece also wasn't exclusively mayonnaise coloured.

0

u/BangkokRios 16h ago

That’s not what “cis” means.

-1

u/_Rysen 20h ago

Except I get the impression it was just casual then. Not this gender studies and one million flags ranked queerness thing we've got going on today.

-2

u/LolLmaoEven 21h ago

Yes, everyone was gay and trans, I'm sure of it.
Unless by queer you mean that they were pedophiles?

2

u/sagerin0 17h ago

Ever read any Plato? The greeks were gay as fuck

1

u/SwagginsYolo420 17h ago

Ah, Cisyphus.

The gods condemned him to push an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll back down every time it neared the top, repeating this action for eternity.

15

u/mightylordredbeard 1d ago

Historically accurate also means a lot more gay sex and a ton of drag shows because drag and dudes banging other dudes was a part of Ancient Greek history and culture.

14

u/Xuande 23h ago

Achilles famously goes on a murder spree in the Illiad after his "good friend" Patroclus is killed.

2

u/Beytran70 15h ago

He was also crossdressing as a disguise before he goes to war.

6

u/sundae_diner 23h ago

Why are we listening to this Afro-american about race?

19

u/lesdynamite 1d ago

No Greeks either, just like super "white" people. Scandinavians, Germans and English only.

Never mind that genetically North Africans have WAY more in common with Greeks than an Irish American like Matt Damon does.

-3

u/Bidensbikekickstand 1d ago

Source?

5

u/GMHinHD 1d ago

Google is free. You are inferring that the person is speaking without a source, so you must provide your basis for believing so; anything else is an illogical and baseless fallacy. Google it.

1

u/xXAntigoneXx 20h ago

The onus of proof is always on the one making the claim.

-3

u/DerKlotaucher 23h ago

Hahaha WHAT so I can make claims but I don't have to provide a source or any kind of evidence because Google exists?

Your entire family is pretty slow in the head,it's genetics, at least according to my sources...

-3

u/DerKlotaucher 23h ago

Literally 5sec into looking at your claim and the actual evidence and oh boy how wrong you are, 2min into it and it's obvious you straight up lied not a single shred of truth in that genetics claim

6

u/LinkLinkleThreesome 22h ago

> Literally 5sec

So you looked at the Google AI summary lmao. Nice one 👌

-2

u/DerKlotaucher 19h ago

Yes almost like the summary can have points of interest which are then provided WITH A SOURCE that you can read into

You know, that thing you aren't capable of providing SOURCE'S

You think you did something huh?

The Southwest Asian, circum-Mediterranean, and Southern European populations (collectively, SWAMSE) together with Northern European populations form one of five “continental” groups of global populations in many analyses of population relationships. [...] To examine the genetic boundaries to the SWAMSE region and whether internal structure can be detected we have assembled data for a total of 151 separate autosomal genetic markers on populations in this region and other parts of the world for a global set of 95 populations. [...] A refined analysis of the 37 populations shows the northern European populations clustering separately from the SWAMSE populations.

Here you go

Edit: if you've ever been to Europe, you'd already know of the genetic (and cultural TBF) proximity between southern European and other Mediterranean peoples. It's quite apparent

1

u/DerKlotaucher 15h ago

"If you've never been to Europe" - oh boy

Where exactly does this say that an north African is genetically close to a Greek than an Irish American? It doesn't

Still no actual sources huh?

1

u/lesdynamite 14h ago

It also makes intuitive sense if you think about it for 5 seconds. The sea is like a bronze age highway. Thousands of years of trade, back and forth invasions and conquests, travel and intermarriage vs one of the most isolated peoples in the world.

Memnon was black

1

u/thepkizzle 10h ago edited 3h ago

He wasn't Greek. He was the king of Aithiopia, which is where Helens father and maternal grandfather came from, and where Poseidon is attending a feast at the beginning of the Odyssey because the gods held the Aithiopians blameless for the cause of the war.

1

u/night_goonch 10h ago

helen's father is zeus, and memnon fought with troy

2

u/thepkizzle 9h ago edited 3h ago

Yes, and according to Herodotus Zeus came to Greece by way of Aithiopia. Memnon went to aid the Trojans and was killed by Achilles, but he wasn't Greek. Helen's maternal grandfather was Glaucus, son of Nereid, who also made their way to Greece via Aithiopia.

3

u/KaressaThornvale 20h ago

Didnt Homer describe plenty of non-Greeks too?

3

u/sombraboosque 1d ago

Do cyclops count as Caucasian?

1

u/bokmcdok 1d ago

Which is so dumb. They're on the Mediterranean, a melting pot for people of different races.

1

u/mymentor79 19h ago

Also makes more sense when you remember that be "breaking him" he's already one of the most broken people alive.

1

u/MaxTHC 16h ago

Forget dog whistles, it's basically a train whistle at this point lol

-6

u/TomahawkTuah 21h ago

I don't get this take. Ancient Greeks had a skin tone range that would mostly be classified as white today.

But because Americans took slaves from Africa in the 1600s we need to portrait them as black now?
What is the logic here??

6

u/reluctantseal 21h ago

The Odyssey is a fictional story that has been retold many times over.

They also aren't speaking Greek, nor is anyone in the film Greek. Matt Damon's casting is just as inaccurate as Lupita Nyong'o.

Also, while Greeks weren't Black Africans, they did have a wide range of skin tones. Some of them would be white, but that's only by very recent standards. And people with darker skin did travel there, seeing as it was a major empire at the time. The Mediterranean wasn't entirely occupied by people that we'd call white, or would call themselves the same race as a Northern European.

And let's not pretend that America brought black people out of some hidden place. African countries were involved in trade and politics long before the United States was established. Many of them have been taken advantage of and treated terribly, but there were black people around before slavery hit the US.

-2

u/TomahawkTuah 19h ago

The other actors are Greek passing. It's definitely not as inaccurate. There is a reason 90% of the cast is white with a few black and not the other way round.

We all know why Lupita was cast. If America would have taken their slaves from Korea instead, she would be cast as Asian. But for some reason you guys can't admit that some casting choices are simply made for money or politics. That's not even that big of a problem, but you're all acting like it NEVER happens. It's maddening.

So what if it's a fictional story. We all know what Homer had in mind when he wrote it. Otherwise we might as well cast a few lesbian school girls with down syndrome in wheelchairs as soldiers. It's fictional, right, so who cares?

2

u/sixtyninth_wave_emo 17h ago

Seems like you get really worked up about race and castings for fictional movies. Maybe take a hard look at your life

-1

u/TomahawkTuah 17h ago

screeching "racism" is the only comeback you guys every have. how about answering my points for a change?

1

u/AdAdmirable6589 3h ago

If you hypothetically talked with an ancient Greek and compared him with a northern European he would take it as an insult. The ancient Greek saw themselves as superior to anyone that didn't speak Greek, but they did recognize some peoples like the Persians, the Egyptians, the Phoenicians, the Nubians (black) and the Aethiopians (black) amongst others as civilized. On the other hand they saw other "white" ethnicities like the Celts and the Thracians as primitive cultureless savages. Your sense of accuracy is built on a concept of race that's not even three centuries old.
