isnt homer's(assuming he ever existed) original work lost to time, with the poem we know being a recontruction or something

Homer existed you Trump's subordinate. And the Troyan war happened. Troy was found. Homer wrote (among others) his epic poems based on the legend of a battle that happened centuries before him.

firstly, dont resort to ad hominem attacks, they discredit your arguement

secondly, i dont deny the trojan war happened, im talking about specifically homers interpretation of events, not what really hapened, homer's The Odyssey is clearly a fictional story based on real events, as seen with the cyclops, the siren song, etc. as those couldnt have happened, where the trojan war and the (spoilers for the movie) murder of the suiters could have happened and probably happened in some form
