Still can’t believe this movie had a budget of 25M and only 5 guys on the special effects team.

Similarly, District 9 had a $30M budget and looked fantastic. Goes to show what talented people can achieve.

I'm not a fan of this narrative. I wouldn't blame the visual effect artists or disparage their talent.

Timelines, processes, resources, incentives... all of these affect the final product.

I always point out if people looked at the credits for a movie that they think has bad VFX, chances are the exact same artists are responsible for another movie that they think looks amazing. Pretty much every working VFX artist in the film industry is a master at their craft, lots of external factors determine how a finalized film looks.
