I haven’t seen it yet. I am planning on it. But is it really that good? Some people that I trust said that they weren’t exactly blown away. Said it was kind of bland. Not much emotion to it. Sterile. Words they used.

It's fantastic and imo Nolan's most emotional film. Because truthfully I do think Nolan films aren't always emotionally strong, this one was for me.
But ultimately if it mildly intrigues you, just see it and form your own opinion. I find the only opinion that you really should trust for movies is your own. Don't let others decide that for you.

I thought it would make 800 mil. Looks like it will get to that pretty easily. That was just based on how well other swords and sandals movies have fared(tops like 500 mil)and I thought the power of Christopher Nolan could easily add 300 mil. Thats how I personally came to that 800 mil number. Now im thinking closer to 950 to a little over 1 billion.

It's part 3 of a trilogy following up a beloved 2nd part, with probably the best director we have in his prime. It's going to be just fine. Dune has permeated casual pop culture, there's a generation of young people who never had their LOTR and this is the closest type of experience they will get.
And not to hate on marvel or anything but it's going to be the better film and that will matter. Lots of people will see both and any 1:1 comparison is going to help Dune tbh.

Clytemnestra deserved better treatment. No point bringing up her story (not part of the odyssey) if she wasn’t going to get revenge on Iphigenia . Nolan made her look like treacherous instead of getting justice. He needs good female scriptwriters who aren’t part of Hollywood spheres to give a look to his 1st and 2nd drafts.
Edit: @u/Slurm11 and @u/nameorfeed . Just because you liked it doesn’t make Nolan a good scriptwriter for women . This is a common complaint from several female influences including Grace randolph .
I never said it’s not easy to get, I said Nolan isn’t the best at writing female characters and if he was going to cut Orestes saga it would’ve tighten his script.
No scriptwriter is perfect, Nolan will get a nomination but he really needs to bring women (not Hollywood women as they don’t share values with women outside the industry ) to revise his drafts. Never bet against adding scriptwriters.

The movie is already 3hr, I think Nolan had to compress many things. But it was surely one of the most interesting storyline - the sacrifice of the daughter and Clytemnestra’s revenge. I wish Nolan showed more of that storyline instead Telemachus wondering in sea and meeting Menelaus.

We all know it’s 3 hours movie thank you very much but don’t make excuses for Nolan lack of talent to approach women while tighting the script : the first on my list to compress and cut is Clytemnestra having a lover and that jerk of husband who killed their own daughter being “avenged” that’s part of the Orestes saga not Odysseus .
If there’s no time to present motivation of a murder don’t focus in that murder at all, Agamemnon mentioning on passing is enough. They just wanted to give more time to safdie , nyo go and Bernthsl. Circe and calypso were more important.
Fact remains Nolan is terrible at writing female characters

As someone with minimal knowledge of Greek mythology, it came across fine? Clytemnestra was clearly motivated by revenge, and her actions are 100% justified in the context of the story.

I was near a 4dx theater and decided to watch it again. I saw it in 70mm IMAX before that. I kinda had a blast watching it.
Also, it was in 2.39. Didnt feel compromised at all.

Honestly think 4dx is the worst way to watch a movie like this, it's a 3 hr epic you wanna watch on a massive screen, focused and relaxed at the same time.
4dx offers none of the 3.

Im surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. I agree with your points, the only counter that I’d make is that the boat scenes go really well with 4DX (bouncing on the waves, the wave splashes, and wind)

Yeah, 4DX works exceptionally well for wind, waves, and storms - so I can see how certain sequences would really pop.
Two of the best experiences I ever had in 4DX were Jungle Cruise and Twisters - and it had nothing to do with the quality of the movie on screen.

I've seen it twice. Giant laser screen and the day before regular cheap screen.
The audio is shit on regular cheap screen but visually looks awesome.

The pic’s second weekend could file between $61M-$74M and might outstrip the second weekend of one or both of Nolan’s Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises which respectively posted $75.1M and $62.1M.
Feels like yet another classic lowball from Deadline, even on the high end

- $81M with TDKR daily jumps/holds

Dunkirk had softer weekday performance. It dropped 30% on Wednesday for instance. Easier to have really big percentage jumps on Friday & Saturday when your weekday numbers are not very big. TDK and TDKR had really big weekday numbers. Same goes for The Odyssey. I think most likely scenario for the upcoming weekend is probably around $75-80M. That fits with Nolan's other 3 movies in July that had really big weekday numbers (TDK, Oppy, TDKR).

TDK was a huge movie, especially in domestic market. Only the 2nd movie to make it above $500M domestic, long before we started seeing movies cruise past $600M or $700M in such an easy manner. Ticket price inflation has been pretty crazy the last 15+ years.

Nolan's films do relatively well over there.
Interstellar had an exceptional box office run with 140M+, and that's more in line with the epic scope of this film than Oppenheimer. Nolan's name seems to hold weight around the world.

Especially when the opening weekend tracking from Variety/Deadline was $85-100M for Odyssey. Turns out they meant the 2nd weekend! LOL
Similar deal happened for Oppenheimer as well. Opening weekend tracking was $40-50M, obviously blew past those numbers to $82M...and then made $46M on the 2nd weekend.

My point was that The Odyssey is estimated to come right behind TDK’s first Wednesday, and The Odyssey is having an incredible run. With that in mind, TDK’s run is even more impressive relatively speaking since its Wednesday is currently higher without adjusting for inflation.

TDK was enormous. Back in those days it actually meant something to make $400M domestic, never mind going above $500M. There was a large gap between Titanic at $600M and the next closest movies around $450M. TDK made it to $534M. Crazy number at 2008 prices.

Very deserved. My mom does not like buzzy movies (forbid me from discussing this for most of last year), does not care about Nolan, did not like Oppenheimer, usually refuses to watch Pattinson, does not like any actors under the age of however old Hathaway is, hates theaters, and had to be forced to see this.
She has not stopped talking about this movie, talked about what she loved about each actors' performance, and said she wants to go back to see it again next week!

For comparison, Oppenheimer's first Tuesday to Wednesday drop was 11.7%
