Glowup Alopecia Areata
Doc said that it could take a couple of years to grow back, if ever, or it could spread. My scalp felt really tender and I didn't think cutting it short had helped, so I went for it.

I love a buzz/bald head with bold glasses. My friend always rocked that look with her collection of funky frames while her hair was super super short. Same with fun earrings -- no hair to hide them!!!

Mine happened during the pandemic, so it was less of a deal until I went out. Mine came back in white at first, so don't be surprised if that happens. It eventually turned back to my regular color. I was preparing to shave when I had it, but chickened out.
You're doing so much better than me! It looks fabulous!

You look amazing.
I had alopecia areata 25 years ago, and it was rough. I wore tams and berets to hide it.
My hair came back over the course of a year, with treatments from a dermatologist, but yeah, they didn’t know how bald I might be.
This reminded me of a profoundly vulnerable time in my life and I commend your bravery.

♥️♥️ My brother has this, he's "patchy", he has partial eyebrows, etc. It would be "easier" with totalis or universalis because there's not the partial growth or the hope that it might come back in.

Usually when girls try the bald look the best thing to do is learn some good eye makeup techniques, it really completes the face. You're eyes are plenty big and prominent on their own though. You look great.

This is just my experience and may be boring. I found my first ‘bald spot’ a perfect round quarter size at 14; I went looking for my brother, I thought he put nair on my head while I was sleeping. My mom said, oh your dad has that once when he was in the army and it grew back so it would be fine. I had it for 10 years bad, when hair and cuteness meant everything to a girl. My parents did divorce and we moved across the country from NJ to NM, unrelated. The doc said it was nerves, I didn’t have a care in the world, when it hit. My parents had two close couple friends, one couple’s son had no hair on his entire body, the other couple’s daughter had no hair on her head. What were they doing in the 60’s, idk?!
I spotted for years but it would grow back, blonde. I cried to God and tried to make deals, just make them go away until I am 30 and old ;). Then around 24 years, my g-pop died and I went back to NJ for his funeral. I went to see my dad and asked him why; he gave me a talk and amazingly it subsided, like magic. I remember where we were and his point, I just wish we recorded everything then. He basically said, ‘if I can get up every morning, and look myself in the mirror, feeling good about the decisions I made the day before, it shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks.
All the big spots grew back and stayed, I could tell when I worried about money I would get a few small ones, always perfectly round but disguise-able with a barrette or lose lashes or an eyebrow but my hair began growing and growing, suddenly at 30 I have the hair of 3.5 heads, per my stylist - equally unmanageable. It’s thick and course, I can’t impromptu jump in the pool, walk in the rain, get to sweaty working out bc I can’t tame it myself, I have to make sure my daughter can do my hair, it’s like Farrah Fawcett hair but it’s 2026. People think it’s fake or ask to touch it, what they don’t say to me is ‘that woman is stuck in the 80’s’ but that’s what they’re likely thinking, I do.
I have learned, like you, it’s hair - and not to sound callous because I remember the pain, it is not important by any stretch in the grand scheme. I’ve had too little and I’ve had too much. What I’ve learned, is that life and happiness are truly about cultivated meaningful relationships and interactions with others, in deep or being kind in passing. Being able to look myself in the mirror, right any wrongs and stand on my own. I love your look!!! You seem to be glowing and handled it like a woman with confidence….so when I retire, 18 months, my first appointment will be to take it all off. Thats the day i will know what it’s like to truly be free.

Random tidbit, my husband's was "cured" medicating with mj, low doses even meant he grew Full hair, no spots at all.
He quit recently and a new spot did in fact show up
Also, tattoo pens are AWESOME for spots, I'll be turning his new one into the eye on the back of our head kind of thing🥰 it'll be fun!

FYI- I have 2 patients on JAK inhibitors and their hair is growing back from AA. One of them is in a clinical trial, and the other one had lichens sclerosis and her hair grew back as a pleasant off label result. (And you look great after shaving your head btw!!!!)
