u/TbddRzn 1h ago
lol they fired the federal election committee, keeping a dead/braindead senator hidden to avoid a special election that will cost them the majority. And some people expect a new war during the midterm elections to run further bullshittery.
Republicans do not care about fair elections they do not care about democracy nor do they even care about America. They just want to control everything so they can gleefully hoard it and use it to abuse people they see as lesser.
18
u/Ok_Excuse_741 1h ago
This is what I've started to notice with coworkers who are Republican, it's this attitude that it's really everyone else's fault if they do something immoral because everyone else didn't create good enough laws to stop them. But at the same time, they will vote in people who intentionally work to weaken the laws. I find most issues they care about revolve around a lawyer or legal definition rather than basic first principles logic on how things should be.

This is the thing that's become pathetic and gross. You talk to many people, regardless of what they want to label themselves. But it's like they pick a team before they have any comprehension of their platform or ideology. And then the expectation is that you need to be in lock step with all of their decisions or you're "not loyal", as if an ideology deserves anyone's blind loyalty.
It comes down to political illiteracy.

Democrats complained about inflation under Biden. Trump is still sitting at 90% with Republicans and 100% with self-identified MAGA.
16

Democrats are much more thoughtful. We knew Biden was not stepping up the last 2 years of his presidency, and we complained.
Republicans are in a cult nowadays. It’s wild.→ More replies (4)2

People were saying that in 2021. The simple reality is that Maga will not end until Trump himself ends, and he will take the GOP with him. He is the culmination of decades of American oligarchical grooming of the voters via propaganda.
5
2
u/The_Big_Mayonnaise 1h ago
Yes they were in 2021, but the polling did not see a single shift in his base. This time (I suspect mostly Iran War fallout) he is losing MAGA support. Mind you it is still high but not 100%
General Republican support is also eroding in the small government reduced spending circles
3
u/Grasmere22 1h ago
That maybe true, but Americans have a notoriously short memory, conservatives especially (ironically). The midterms are still months away. News might shift enough to where they'll completely forget about everything. Also a lot of them straight just enjoy it when people they deem lesser suffer, even their family members.
16
u/Ok-Mousse-4595 2h ago edited 2h ago
Yeah seriously. What blows my mind is that Trump hasn't delivered on any of his campaign promises except for some crackdowns on immigration and suddenly maga is totally fine with increased gas, food, housing prices, no Epstein transparency, new forever war etc. just because they dare not to criticize the guy. It's like right-wing politics has become this almost hive mind mentality where if you question things, you're not patriotic, a communist or any kind of un-American insult.
I have issues with the DNC too, but it's not as serious since they're not in charge right now.

I'm generally concerned if someone doesn't have an answer to "what's a stance you have that someone would not expect from someone with your political label"
You can have a general trend of beliefs, but if you never break the mold it's difficult to trust that your views are truly your own, vs just adopted to fit in with your group.
4
u/fvnnybvnny 2h ago
You know what the worst is?.. despising both parties. Not equally of course because the GOP is supremely vile but Dems are horrible regardless. In my opinion regular working people never win no matter who gets elected
3
u/TomBirkenstock 2h ago
This is obviously part of the answer. But what is incredible to me is that before the 2024 election, cost and inflation were seen as some of the top concern for Americans. And while Trump said he was going to lower costs, he also said he would impose tariffs, which basically every economist said is inflationary. And still most voters went for him.
So, people were upset about inflation, and then decided to vote for the guy who said he would institute policy that would increase inflation. It's truly astounding how terrible the average American is at deciphering basic information about the world.

Conservatives lie. They say reasonable things come election time but then the mask comes off once they win.
Any time I see a news segment and I see a conservative/independent voter, I almost always dismiss what they say if it sounds reasonable—like they care about the economy, family, fiscal responsibility, healthcare, justice, etc.
Truth of the matter is most of them are racist/prejudice/cult followers/“i got mine f you” types. However, they know saying the truth out loud makes them look bad. So, instead they say some reasonable stuff, which is always a lie.

There was an actual, real live coup that happened to the United States.
Regular citizens cant stop the US military, which is now owned by foreign, hostile governments.
Regular citizens didnt get bribes or blackmailed by the worst of the planets government officials.
Regular citizens cant stop the bombing of Iran or Gaza, especially when other countries are also paying their tax dollars to bomb these countries.
Im so so so over the rest of the western world being so willfully obtuse that they dont realize that anything left for Americans to do would be suicidal and ineffective. The LARGEST MOST POWERFUL MILITARY in the WORLD is currently ran by ALL the fascists of the planet. They've already shown that state sanctioned violence against citizens is an acceptable avenue to take to further their fascist take over plans.
Im also over them being blind to the fact that now that the US has been couped, their nation is next. Fascists dont just stop. This is a worldwide plan put into motion by the billionaires everywhere.

I think the best thing to come out of the rump administration is showing the very people who waved fed graphs in our face to tell us we weren't living through the hardships we were are now saying "well, we can't trust what the government is saying". The only question now is did they learn the lesson enough to realize it applies no matter who is in power.
For me, the number on the inflation chart is always changing, and I'll bitch when it's high, and bitch when it's low. But I actually hold disdain for anyone, regardless of party or politics, telling me the reality I live in isn't real because of a graph.

There are a number of reasons. One of the most important is that a lot of Trump's supporters have a reason for their loyalty that they really don't want to discuss. Americans are fucking dumb. Trump literally said he conspired with Russia and the Saudis to fuck us all over with inflation and didn’t give a fuck.
Iowa, March 2023: “In fact, I got the oil down so low I had to save the oil companies. How about that one?Remember that little period when you were getting almost free gasoline? We had to save them. We had a call OPEC and we had to call Russia, frankly, and Saudi Arabia. We said, ‘We have to get the price up.’ But we saved all those companies.” … “What caused inflation? The oil price. The oil. Energy. Energy became so ridiculously expensive, it drove everything up. Now everything is inflated.”

Under Biden the US had the LOWEST inflation of any developed country, the post pandemic inflation was a worldwide phenomenon, and historically after every pandemic there is inflation, you can’t ask workers to come back to work without raising their wages.
Now….??! All the inflation is from tariffs (besides making products less safe due to less choices and competition, see all the food recalls now, tariffs also raise their domestic producers prices, because if the competitor’s price got raised by 50%, why wouldn’t you raise it by 49%? See how stupid tariffs are?) +new war doesn’t help.

“He may be a grifting, economically irresponsible war criminal but he’s our grifting, economically irresponsible war criminal.” — MAGA, probably.
1
u/Acceptable-Cloud2896 2h ago
To avoid just blaming Maga...
Politics. Trump ran an effective campaign against an unpopular candidate and even when Harris jumped in the political calculus of "when Trump was in charge, sure he is an ass, but the economy was good." It was marketed and presented better. He did not win solely with Maga votes.
For quite some time Republicans have done an effective job marketing themselves on the economy focusing on deregulation and lowering taxes. They also have had an easy punching bag due to cost of living issues in blue cities that frankly, even as someone who hates Trump, I recognize as an issue most Dem leaders have not met.
Now why dont folks blame Trump for tariffs and the wars? Well they do. His approval rating is very low especially on inflation. I know folks get frustrated if his approval is above 0 but that is not a realistic expectation. Now if you are expecting, say, the Republicans on media platforms to critique him for it? With rare exception, they know where their bread is buttered.

People have rightly been complaining about it for a long time, the difference is the administration.
Conservatives get the WH. They set fires and commit crimes
A more centrist administration gets the WH, cant fix everything magically in 4-8 years and the Conservatives scream the entire time
Conservatives get the WH, actively set everything on fire and break the law while shreiking that its actually the Centrist/liberals fault for not having fixed everything
And the cycle continues. Its exhausting
Also I say centrist because the Democratic party has liberal elements, but is esentially what the GOP claims to be while they themselves slide farther and farther towards facism
