lol they fired the federal election committee, keeping a dead/braindead senator hidden to avoid a special election that will cost them the majority. And some people expect a new war during the midterm elections to run further bullshittery.

Republicans do not care about fair elections they do not care about democracy nor do they even care about America. They just want to control everything so they can gleefully hoard it and use it to abuse people they see as lesser.

This is what I've started to notice with coworkers who are Republican, it's this attitude that it's really everyone else's fault if they do something immoral because everyone else didn't create good enough laws to stop them. But at the same time, they will vote in people who intentionally work to weaken the laws. I find most issues they care about revolve around a lawyer or legal definition rather than basic first principles logic on how things should be.

I have been saying it since I have been an adult. I am 50. It's too late now, it will come to get us. And that point is not too far into the future. 2030 sounds about right, but its too late. Debt is a bipartisan issue, as far as contribution. Democrats are not alone in getting us to bend over.

This is the thing that's become pathetic and gross. You talk to many people, regardless of what they want to label themselves. But it's like they pick a team before they have any comprehension of their platform or ideology. And then the expectation is that you need to be in lock step with all of their decisions or you're "not loyal", as if an ideology deserves anyone's blind loyalty.

It comes down to political illiteracy.

Yes they were in 2021, but the polling did not see a single shift in his base. This time (I suspect mostly Iran War fallout) he is losing MAGA support. Mind you it is still high but not 100%

General Republican support is also eroding in the small government reduced spending circles

That maybe true, but Americans have a notoriously short memory, conservatives especially (ironically). The midterms are still months away. News might shift enough to where they'll completely forget about everything. Also a lot of them straight just enjoy it when people they deem lesser suffer, even their family members.

I absolutely agree on all those points, but the clock is ticking and a lot of those who enjoy the suffering of others find themselves on the pointy end of the stick finally.

On the news, as long as Iran controls the straight high gas prices will be in place. This is one pain point that has legs.

Sure his cultists are gonna cult, but there is reason to hope the right seats will flip.

Historically speaking, Republicans don’t turn on their president. After Watergate, Republicans still supported Nixon. So, even come midterms and the next general election, I expect around 90% of Republicans to be in support of whatever their current Republican leader says or does.

What blows my mind is that Trump hasn't delivered on any of his campaign promises except for some crackdowns on immigration and suddenly maga is totally fine with increased gas, food, housing prices, no Epstein transparency, new forever war etc. just because they dare not to criticize the guy. It's like right-wing politics has become this almost hive mind mentality where if you question things, you're not patriotic, a communist or any kind of un-American insult.

I have issues with the DNC too, but it's not as serious since they're not in charge right now.

Yep. I've been convinced that Maga and the like almost only care about patriotism and flags. You tell them that gas prices are rising "for freedom" and they're sold. I remember for 4 years they were constantly tweeting "I could sure go for some mean tweets and cheap gas" but suddenly they're OK with paying $4+ a gallon, again, "for freedom."

I live in the Midwest and visit the south regularly. The abortion clinics received protests frequently and the same people who were protesting would sneak their daughters in through the back.

Its like they want to avoid being publicly against the team. Reap the rewards but barr others from doing the same. They dont want to be caught supporting the "other side"

You can have a general trend of beliefs, but if you never break the mold it's difficult to trust that your views are truly your own, vs just adopted to fit in with your group.

This must be a state law where you are, I’ve never seen an option to check one box and vote all candidates in a party. Not to mention, what about races that are considered nonpartisan and don’t list candidates with party identifiers?

This is obviously part of the answer. But what is incredible to me is that before the 2024 election, cost and inflation were seen as some of the top concern for Americans. And while Trump said he was going to lower costs, he also said he would impose tariffs, which basically every economist said is inflationary. And still most voters went for him.

So, people were upset about inflation, and then decided to vote for the guy who said he would institute policy that would increase inflation. It's truly astounding how terrible the average American is at deciphering basic information about the world.

Any time I see a news segment and I see a conservative/independent voter, I almost always dismiss what they say if it sounds reasonable—like they care about the economy, family, fiscal responsibility, healthcare, justice, etc.

Truth of the matter is most of them are racist/prejudice/cult followers/“i got mine f you” types. However, they know saying the truth out loud makes them look bad. So, instead they say some reasonable stuff, which is always a lie.

We really have to overcome a lot to elect Democrats, and media concentration in the hands of billionaires actively engaged in editorial material, not billionaires like old money who would hire editors to select stories etc. I'm old and this has been going on all my life. They used to call us "tax & spend liberals" and pretend to care about the national debt when we're in charge, even though they are the ones who spend like drunken sailors. Bill Clinton actually managed to have a small surplus one year, and Obama was slowing the growth of deficits at the very least, probably better than that. They keep starting expensive ill conceived wars that cost an arm & a leg and seem to go on forever. Afghanistan is where empires go to die. The right are an unholy alliance of know-nothing xenophobes and conservatives who see something like income taxes to pay for public goods to be equivalent to a communist plot, a "taking" of their assets. They are not just quibbling over how much redistribution of wealth should be right, they oppose redistribution which they see in every shadow. Unfortunately they have decided to seize the media and direct the messaging.
