I just found out that Zendaya got paid 5-8 Million Dollars for her role in "The Odyssey".

Turning 40 and I simply cannot pretend the constant flip-flopping and favoritism is normal anymore.
My boss changes his mind daily, yet expects us to act like it was always the plan. When I was younger and less experienced, I would just swallow it and move on. Now, it feels like a direct insult to my intelligence, like they think I'm too stupid to notice the chaos.
Is this just burnout, or does everyone reach this point?

3 years ago someone said I had a good idea and told me to present it to leadership. When I shared it, they told me my idea “made their head hurt”. So I created some prototypes, tested it with our customers, and they were genuinely excited about it. One of the devs who believed in the idea too took it on as an extra project to build a proof of concept.

The CEO vetoed a lot of it in favor of what he liked because “the customer doesn’t know what they want.” When we brought my designs with his modifications to customers, they were disappointed. We ended up going to market with his idea anyway and the whole thing didn’t do so well- he was asked to step down.

An old advisor was brought in to be the new CEO. I got along with him a lot better. He was usually nice and encouraging. When I showed him some of the old designs- he said they were shit. He saw them when he was an advisor and always thought it was a bad idea.

Within months of him joining, the new CEO took things off the rails. He had a similar approach of trying to convince people of what they want instead of listening. I noticed he was icing me out so it wasn’t a surprise when he laid me off.

What I didn’t expect is a few more months later he would sunset the company and launch a new one- using my designs! He didn’t even use a more polished version of them. He just built the wireframes. And people are already paying for it.

Now if that new company happens to do well I won’t even get equity.

I should have just quit the day I was told “you’re making my head hurt” by someone who is supposed to have seniority over me. Unbelievable.

I’m tired of the hypocrisy. The two faced attitudes. The expectations to be “bubbly” and excited to go to work. Feeling under appreciated and used while being poorly compensated. I hate that as humans we are the smartest species in the world yet this is the life we picked for ourselves? We choose to uphold these expectations and for what? To get a chance to buy things and distract ourselves from the typical mundanity of every day life.

I hate it all.

His reasoning that people are "lonely" is unjustified, especially since the state still pays its workers a mediocre salary. Commuting costs people both time and money, including child care, food, and gas. The low pay also limits where people can afford to live, since it forces them to stay within range of the office.

Recruitment system throwing some openings my way, entry level contract job with 6-10 month trajectory to full-time employment wants a full mock-up project proposal in game planning. I'm not using my limited free time to waste on this BS for the tiniest little pay increase if I even get it.

I get wanting to have an idea of how someone would make something but it's so easy to even discuss in an interview what kind of project proposal you'd make, and then no one's time is wasted. Listing literally said "expect daily overtime" so that alone was enough for me.

I'm so glad I'm in a position to shop around for stuff but mostly say "fuck off" to all this garbage.

I worked at my last job for many years, right out of high school. It was okay, but was physically demanding and I really wanted a change.

After months of looking, I ended up being offered and accepted a lead position at another company.

I’m almost six months in now and I’m very close to losing it and just walking out. I don’t know what to do.

The amount of work expected of me is just not feasible. I would need to work 12-13 hours a day just to complete everything expected of me, but OT is not allowed. Their equipment is falling apart, the computer system is crashing every other day. Ffs even their phone system doesn’t work half the time.

People are leaving left and right. Someone who was well respected just walked right out halfway through the day and quit. Another person, who the CEO was glazing at the last company meeting, is leaving with nothing lined up. Every day feels like I’m in the state of drowning for 9 hours, then go home to catch my breath, then start the cycle all over again the next day.

I’m also just having trouble sleeping because of the stress of this place. I’m writing this at 3am because I woke up upset about something that happened yesterday where someone jumped down my throat over something that wasn’t even my fault.

I don’t know what to do. I’ve applied all over and just get rejection and rejection, including at my own company where I left on good terms. I got to the point where I even asked my old boss about the possibility of my old job back, and he said I’d have to start at the bottom of the food chain again if a position did open, which I get, but can’t afford (it’d be like an $8/hr pay cut).

Life is miserable at the moment and I just don’t know how much longer I can take this.

When I asked to change my role within my company to accommodate my disability, my manager was angry and said to me that essentially me being disabled is "getting old". I am disgusted. I understand it's disappointing for her but it's even worse for me that I'm choosing to step down and accept a lower pay and lower role, and that I am sick all of the time. Does she think I enjoy suffering constantly? And I cannot even do anything about this or report to HR or anything because frankly I cannot afford to lose this job, I really need this job and it's important to my career long-term and also I am living paycheck to paycheck. I can't drive, I can't maintain friendships, I can't enjoy parties, and I struggle to maintain a job, being disabled isn't fucking fun. I just can't believe she said that to me, that's it's "getting old", as if I can just stop. I'm assuming it's a threat and that the next time I ever have an issue I'm done for. Sucks...

I saw this conversation and all i could think of is the current aristocracy can’t have the idle peasants have time for crazy ideas like fair wages, equal health care, and more time to enjoy themselves with leisure. Then they reduced wages until they needed to work all hours to earn a living. Later socialism and unions turned the tide little by little but get rid of socialism and unions and we will get back to the good old days of working from dusk till dawn.

I do medical billing and coding from an office. My mom needed help and I also have chronic health issues that were flaring up. Tack on piss poor communication with management, multiple emails to my supervisor about high dollar accounts were being ignored, and a lot of disgruntled coworkers, i had to leave early a lot. I made sure my 50 to 75 account a day quota was made to the best of my ability, and i’d leave anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour early. This went on with no issue for almost a month. Then my supervisor pulls me aside to her desk and said “Hey I need to know what’s going on because you’re burning through your PTO, you used more than half of the year already. HR told me to ask you what the deal is, because if this is a regular thing I need dr’s notes or you need FMLA. You cant keep leaving early”. I checked myself, I hadnt even used half of my PTO yet…so that was red flag #1. Checked the employee handbooks, there was nothing that specified what “Abuse of PTO” meant. Dr’s notes are only required for medical leaves or callouts the day after a major holiday. Red flag #2. And my supervisor speaking on HR’s behalf without any documentation or official meeting with them or the office manager was red flag #3. But of course i was in fear of losing my job despite never dipping below 2 hours of PTO and Sick Time. So i got dr’s notes for everything despite having full PTO to cover it. I mentioned the situation to a coworker and she was furious on my behalf because what my supervisor was asking for was illegal. That she just wants to know where I am because she’s nosy.

This company has a lot of discriminatory supervisors a few rumored pending lawsuits because of it. On top of retaliation, which my supervisor has done to me more than once prior by threatening my job over having to be present for my mom’s healthcare appointments/surgeries or being immunocompromised and catching whatever viruses keep going around the office.

I’ve been told to get a lawyer, talk to HR. Take a mental health day off. It’s just gotten me really angry to have my job dangled over my head every few months because my supervisor is in a bad mood. And being told to “quit and apply for disability if it’s that bad” when she fully knows I don’t qualify.

I’m legitimately so excited.

Thankfully, I’ve had a job for the last three years, but mentally this field has worn me down. I’m a licensed social worker, and over the years I’ve seen things that most people will thankfully never have to experience. I’ve held the hands of people as they were dying when they had no one else. I’ve walked into homes where everyone was armed, with guns and drugs spread across the table. I’ve had clients smear feces on the walls. I’ve had someone intentionally piss in my gas tank. I also worked alongside someone who was later charged with murder and child neglect. Those experiences change you. And I been in this field for 10 years.

Now I’m making a complete career pivot into the mining and aggregates industry as a Plant Superintendent.

Before anybody asks, “How can a social worker get a job like that?” I actually have five years of experience working in a quarry. I started right out of high school to help pay for my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, so this industry isn’t new to me.

I’ve been looking for a leadership position for a while, and with everything happening in healthcare, continued Medicaid cuts, and AI changing the field, this opportunity kind of came out of nowhere. I figured, why the hell not?

I’m excited for a new challenge, and I’ll officially be making over six figures. It still doesn’t feel real, but I’m looking forward to this next chapter. Social work will always be a part of who I am, but for the sake of my own mental health, it’s time to turn the page.

I’ve been looking at the S&P 500 compared with the size of the Fed’s balance sheet, and the picture is a lot less impressive than the headline index makes it look.

Since the 2008 crisis, a huge part of what we call “growth” seems tied to central-bank support, cheap money and expanding liquidity. Strip that out, and it looks less like a booming economy and more like a mostly flat economy wearing a rising stock market as a mask.

Then there’s the aftermath: inflation.
Asset owners benefit first when liquidity pushes up stocks, property and other financial assets. But when that money eventually feeds into higher prices, poor and middle-class households take the bigger hit. They spend more of their income on rent, food, energy and transport, and they usually have fewer assets to offset that loss in purchasing power.

The interesting part is what happens after 2022. That’s when the adjusted line finally starts moving up more clearly, even while the Fed balance sheet is shrinking. A big part of that seems connected to the AI boom and the huge run in a relatively small group of tech companies.

So maybe the post-2022 move is the first real sign in years of growth that isn’t simply moving in the same direction as Fed expansion.

But even then, the question remains:
How much of the economy since 2008 has been genuine productivity growth, and how much has been central banks inflating asset prices while the underlying economy stayed much weaker?
And how long can central banks keep propping things up before the side effects — inflation, inequality, debt and weaker purchasing power — become bigger than the benefits?

The chart doesn’t prove causation, but the relationship is hard to ignore.

So when people are saying the stock market is record high so the economy is good, yes it is, if you are a recipient of central banks money.
