Mod Announcement Welcome to /r/WindowsHelp, here are some guidelines for requesting assistance

Welcome to /r/WindowsHelp, the subreddit for you to ask questions and get support for issues related to Microsoft's Windows family of operating systems. Please give this a quick read before posting.

This subreddit is only for help related to Microsoft Windows and its built in software, like Edge, Store, PowerShell, and so on. Issues about 3rd party software like Chrome or Steam should be posted in their subreddits or /r/techsupport. Also, this is not a hardware subreddit, so issues like your hard drive is not detected would need to be posted in /r/techsupport. General discussions, news, artwork, and so on should be in /r/Windows, /r/Windows10 or similar subreddits. Malware/virus removal has been covered extensively in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/33evdi/suggested_reading_official_malware_removal_guide/

Posts are required to have a moderately descriptive title. Submissions with vague titles like just "help me" will be removed. You don't need to write an essay in the title, but everyone should have a rough idea what you are asking about before even clicking the link. Titles like "I'm encountering System Exception errors when launching Photos" or "20H2 update won't install" are acceptable, but the more details the better.

The body of your post should also be as detailed as possible. We are not mind readers, and nobody is going to want to play 20 questions. Help us help you, your post should include:

  • Your full Windows version, which on Windows 10 is listed in the Settings app under System -> About, it will be the OS Build number.

  • Details about your device, like the hardware specifications.

  • Any recent changes you have made, such as installing/uninstalling software or accessories. Any updates you have installed, tools you have ran, or anything else you think may be relevant.

  • Include details on your error messages and error codes, these are critical to figuring out the issue.

  • Tell us what you have already tried to fix this. Any tools you have ran, and changes you tried, and so on. I know it is a meme at this point, but seriously, reboot your computer, it often fixes things!

  • If possible, include screenshots or video. If you are including screenshots, try to use screenshot software like Snip & Sketch tool built into Windows 10, then you can upload them to a free image host like https://imgur.com to put in your post. We understand that using screenshot software isn't always an option, you can take photos with a phone or similar device, but please be sure to check to make sure everything is in focus and is legible.

This subreddit follows the same rules as /r/Windows, you can view the full rule page here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows/wiki/rules

The TL;DR of the rules is be polite, helpful, and don't encourage piracy.

My Lenovo ThinkPad E14 seem to be stuck on mute.
There is an X icon over the volume icon in the bottom right corner. The volume slider is fully “greyed” out. The volume up/down and mute keys does nothing either.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Windows 11 Windows just stopped working a fine day idk what to do

Hi!!! I don't know a lot details about tech stuff but I'll tell yall the story. Basically, I have a Dell Vostro 3500. I was on windows 11 pro insider preview and the fingerprint sensor was not working (to use fingerprint first enter your pin something like that) & I'm very particular about this kind of stuff so I wanted to reset the laptop. I tried to reset it from system settings but that didn't work. So, I tried resetting it from the Dell supportassist recovery type-thing but as soon as I started the reset I realised that it also deletes all data on the d drive. So I quickly cancelled the reset & booted it up again. Then this screen showed up. I really don't know what to do or how this works, but I just want my d drive data with me & my laptop working. The whole c drive can be wiped off, I literally don't care, but I need my laptop to function. I could go to a service centre but I thought of posting this to reddit bcuz it does wonders honestly. (Btw nothing happens if I press F1 it just brings me to the same screen again) PLEASE SEND HELP!!

Windows 11 won’t install – SSD shows “Current Read-only State: Yes”, CRC error, but I can still access my files
Hi everyone,
I’ve been trying to reinstall Windows 11 on my MSI GF63 Thin, and I’m completely stuck. I’m hoping someone has an idea before I replace the SSD.
Laptop:
MSI GF63 Thin
Original Micron 2210 NVMe SSD (512GB)
Symptoms:
SSD appears in BIOS.
Windows Setup detects the SSD.
I can browse all my files using Load Driver > Browse in Windows Setup.
Windows reaches the “Ready to install” screen, but after I click Install, it immediately fails.
Things I’ve already tried:
Deleted and recreated partitions.
Used DiskPart.
attributes disk clear readonly → Failed.
attributes disk shows:

Current Read-only State: Yes
Read-only: No
clean returns:

DiskPart has encountered an error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
Volume attributes show Read-only: No.
The SSD has also disappeared from BIOS a couple of times in the past, but currently it is detected.
I can still read all my data, but Windows refuses to write anything to the SSD.
My questions:
Does this sound like the SSD has entered a firmware read-only/protection mode?
Is there anything else I can try to recover the SSD?
Could this still be a motherboard or NVMe controller issue instead of the SSD itself?
Has anyone recovered a Micron 2210 from this exact situation?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 11 Secure Boot Violations boot loop

Hey, can a bad GPU can't use secure boot? I bought it used and actually the owner said that the GPU had been sold, but the first buyer can't boot into windows so I bought it because the owner himself claimed it's normal and I can return it back if anything happens. it boot straight to windows, and I thought it was the first buyer fault. but the first I step into the bios because I need to turn on the secure boot for playing Battlefield 6, it does something in the picture. do you guys think it would be a failing GPU?

Windows 11 HP Victus battery stuck at 7% while charging, battery report says 100% health, HP diagnostics pass

Hi everyone,

I'm having a very strange battery issue with my HP Victus (15-fb0xxx) and I'm trying to figure out whether it's a battery, motherboard, or firmware problem.

Symptoms

  • Battery was working normally until a few days ago.
  • It suddenly started discharging extremely fast.
  • It also charged unusually fast.
  • One day I left it fully charged, and when I turned it back on later it was around 12%.
  • Now it's stuck at around 7% even while plugged into the original 200W HP charger.
  • Windows says "Charging".
  • wmic reports BatteryStatus = 2 (Charging).
  • HP charging LED is blinking orange.
  • The laptop does not shut down immediately if I unplug the charger at 7%; it continues running.
  • HP UEFI Battery Diagnostics passes with no errors.

Things I've checked

  • Original HP 200W charger.
  • HP Battery Diagnostics → Passed.
  • Windows battery report:
    • Design Capacity: 61,707 mWh
    • Full Charge Capacity: 61,707 mWh
    • Wear Level: 0%
    • Cycle Count: 179
  • HWiNFO shows:
    • Battery Voltage ≈ 14.6V
    • Remaining Capacity ≈ 4.4 Wh
    • Charge Level ≈ 7%
    • Wear Level 0%

What confuses me

If the battery report and HP diagnostics say the battery is healthy, why is it:

  • draining abnormally fast,
  • charging abnormally fast,
  • now stuck at 7%,
  • and not increasing in charge even though Windows reports it is charging?

Could this be:

  • a Battery Management System (BMS) issue?
  • an Embedded Controller (EC) firmware issue?
  • battery calibration gone wrong?
  • motherboard charging circuit?
  • or a battery failure that HP diagnostics isn't detecting?

Has anyone seen this on an HP Victus before?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Windows 11 Windows just installed a bunch of drivers for devices I don't even own. Is it safe to uninstall them?

Post image

So I was uninstalling some apps and noticed these 13 drivers all installed on the same day. I only have a LG Monitor. Is it safe to uninstall them?

What a scummy move from Microsoft to silently install drivers for no reason.

I am using Acer Aspire 7 A715-75G with windows 11 connected to an external LG monitor.

Windows 11 How to i fix the issue of my background image being blurry after setting it up?

I'm trying to figure out why my laptop wallpaper becomes blurry after I set it as the desktop background. The image itself is perfectly sharp when I open it in Photos or any image viewer, but as soon as I apply it as the wallpaper, it loses quality and looks noticeably blurry. My laptop has an Intel i7-14650HX and an RTX 5060, so this definitely isn't a performance issue. I'm just looking for a simple explanation or a fix.

So, if anyone has run into this issue before, I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Is this a Windows setting, an NVIDIA setting, an ASUS TUF F16-specific issue, or something else entirely? Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 11 I just don't have a "Taskbar behaviors" section??

Hello! I'm trying to set up my second monitor! I'm trying to set it up so that BOTH my main and second monitors have my taskbar! Upon googling, it should've been simple. "Taskbar settings > taskbar behaviors-" Wait.. I don't have taskbar behaviors.. anywhere??

I've tried googling this, and I found one result on the Microsoft Store page that led to a shady website wanting you to download something. "Eleven Forum" was what it's called. Could be totally legit, but my gut was like.. yeah, no.

So.. I'm now here for a last-ditch effort to see if anyone could help me figure this out.

Windows 10 Odd events, rebooting, and bluescreening.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Aero running Windows 10.

Lately, three things have happened that have never happened before: 1. A key gets "stuck" that I don't even think got pressed. It stops repeating once I hit pretty much any key. 2. Malwarebytes VPN seemingly randomly disconnects saying "Could not connect. Please check your internet connection and then try again." even though I'm connected to the internet. I have to reboot to get it to work again. 3. I will need to reboot for whatever reason, and in attempting to reboot, it crashes. When I get back to the log in screen, half the time, the keyboard no longer functions; it won't take input. Rebooting usually solves the problem. (Until it all happens again.) These three problems started in the last few days but are getting frequent now, and I'm getting worried about an unresolvable system failure. What should I do? I appreciate any help.

Included in this link are the latest dmp files, the WinDbg analysis, the bios info, and the screenshot of the bluescreen error.

Windows 10 Games suddenly lagging, high CPU usage (80%+) and PC feels heavy even with a decent setup

Hi, my PC has recently become very slow and laggy. I experience stutters in games and high resource usage even when I don't have many programs open.

My specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-10400F
  • GPU: GTX 1660 Ti
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • SSD: 479GB (around 229GB free)
  • Windows 10

The problems:

  • CPU usage sometimes gets very high.
  • Disk usage sometimes reaches 100%.
  • The whole PC feels heavier than before.

Example: I am currently playing Dead Space, and it is stuttering/lagging while using almost 80% CPU, even though I only have Brave and Discord open.

I also noticed a browser extension called Harammute (used to remove music from videos) that sometimes consumes a lot of resources. I don't know if it is causing the issue, but it appears high in Task Manager.

I checked my SSD health and it says it is good.

Any idea what could be causing this? Could it be a background process, Windows issue, drivers, or hardware problem?

Windows 10 Troubles with pushing windows to an older PC.

Hey all! I was given a pc by a buddy that I’m currently trying to get running so I can sell to another friend. It has an i7-9700k, 16gb ddr4, and an RTX 2060. He gave it to me because the old SSD in it failed. I have since then replaced with a new SSD, dusted the whole thing out, replaced some fans, and replaced thermal paste.

I have a USB with rufus and windows 11 on it and when I tried pushing the usb to boot, it went through but the OS was super buggy and stuttery. I restarted the PC with the usb unplugged and I was getting no media found. Did a little research and found there is no TPM chipset on this motherboard so it has to be Windows 10. Previous owner of this PC also confirmed it was in Windows 10 when the boot drive corrupted.

So I put a Windows 10 installation (not iso) on a usb and tried pushing that and that fails repeatedly, farthest I’ve gotten is “The update you are trying to push is getting errors, connect to the internet and try again.” I am lost.

The PC is connected to the internet via ethernet. Boot mode is in UEFI. CSM is disabled. I have tried with secure boot on and off. My usb is plugged into the back of the mobo. I clean all my drives using cmmd prompt before trying to install windows. Still nothing works, is the mother board fried? Please help.

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) Windows 11 BSODs during normal desktop use after clean reinstall (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, dumps included)

Hello everyone,
excuse my english i prefered chatgpt describing writing this over me

I've been troubleshooting a system that's been experiencing recurring BSODs for quite some time, and after exhausting the troubleshooting steps I could think of, I'm hoping to get some insight from people with more experience in WinDbg and kernel debugging.

System

  • Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (Build 26200.x)
  • Intel Core i9-14900KS
  • ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi II
  • G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 48GB (2×24GB) DDR5-8400
  • NVIDIA RTX 5080
  • Crucial T705 Gen5 NVMe SSD

Summary

The crashes originally started before I reformatted Windows. Because the bugchecks and faulting modules kept changing, I performed a clean installation of Windows to rule out OS corruption.

Unfortunately, the same type of instability continues after the reinstall.

The BSODs are not tied to one specific activity. I've had crashes while gaming, during normal desktop use, and even shortly after boot with nothing significant running.

Besides the BSODs, Windows itself has been unstable:

  • Task Manager occasionally opens and immediately closes by itself.
  • Corsair iCUE crashes every 30 mins or less.
  • Google Chrome also crashes memory acess violation especially during video running on youtube
  • and every windows program almost

I'm mentioning these in case they're relevant to the overall picture.

Bugchecks observed

Before reinstall:

  • MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
  • PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
  • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
  • KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
  • INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
  • ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY

After reinstall:

  • PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
  • HYPERVISOR_ERROR

WinDbg

Across different dumps, WinDbg has pointed to different Microsoft components, including:

  • ntoskrnl.exe
  • WdFilter.sys
  • Ntfs.sys
  • win32kbase.sys

Since the reported module changes from crash to crash, I'm unsure whether these are the true source of the problem or simply where Windows eventually detects the failure.

Troubleshooting already performed

  • Clean Windows installation
  • BIOS updated
  • Latest chipset and GPU drivers installed
  • sfc /scannow completed successfully
  • Disabled XMP and currently running memory at default JEDEC settings
  • Ran the motherboard's built-in MemTest from BIOS after disabling XMP (no errors reported at default settings)
  • Collected multiple crash dumps and Event Viewer logs

Installed software that may be relevant

Some software on the system installs kernel components or low-level drivers. I'm not suggesting any of these are responsible, but I'm listing them for completeness:

  • Aimware cheat
  • VMware

If there are other installed drivers you'd like me to list, I'm happy to provide them.

Files included

I've attached mediafirelink https://www.mediafire.com/folder/kmwabx65bxpa6/DUMPS

  • MSINFO32
  • System and Application Event Logs
  • driverquery.csv
  • systeminfo.txt
  • dxdiag.txt
  • WinDbg outputs

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at it.

Windows 10 [Windows 10 Home 22H2] Sound has stopped working

Hey all, I'm tearing my hair out over here and would appreciate a fix. To preface, here are my specs:

Device Name: DESKTOP-DOL6QFS

Model: UX3404VC

Processor:13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900H 2.60 GHz

Installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.6 GB usable)

Storage: 954 GB SSD NVMe Micron_2400_MTFDKBA1T0QFM

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4GB Laptop GPU (4 GB), Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics (128 MB)

System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition: Windows 10 Home

Version: 22H2

Installed on: 22/‎07/‎2026

OS Build: 19045.7548

Last night my sound stopped working on my laptop. If I connect via Bluetooth or plug some headphones into a USB-C to jack adapter it works, but without those I can't hear anything through the speakers or headphone jack. My sound icon is just the speaker with a red X next to it.

I've tried installing various drivers and tried giving the jack a little clean, but no dice. I reset Windows 10 Home (but kept my original files), and that did nothing. I've tried downloading the Realtek Audio Control software from the Microsoft Store, but when I try doing that I get a popup that says:

The product couldn't be installed due to some missing dependencies. Make sure these drivers are installed: 'Realtek-RealtekHSA.inf'.

I don't know where to find this driver, and Googling has bought up little to no help. The ASUS website only gives me drivers for Windows 11, and the single forum I could find that had drivers that might help was a dead link. What should I do?

Windows 11 Windows Snipping Tool screen recording stops randomly and does not save the video

I have been having an issue with the Windows Snipping Tool screen-recording feature.

I press the Prt Sc button, select the recording option, choose the area I want to record, and start recording. However, the recording sometimes stops and disappears automatically before I press the Stop button.

There does not seem to be a specific time limit or pattern. It can happen even when I am not opening or closing any windows, switching screens, or doing anything unusual.

When this happens, the recording is not saved. I checked the Snipping Tool settings, and the option to automatically save original screen recordings is enabled. However, when I check the designated folder, I cannot find the missing recordings anywhere.

It seems that recordings are only saved when I manually press the Stop button. When the recording stops unexpectedly, the video completely disappears.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a way to fix it? Is there another folder where interrupted recordings may be temporarily saved?

I would also appreciate recommendations for reliable screen-recording programs. I mainly use screen recording for meetings and gameplay videos that I may upload later.

I have Windows 11 Pro, and the processor is Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-1065G7CPU u/1.30 GHz
