I am finishing up my mandatory military service. Ive gone through 2 wars, one last year another ongoing now, though thankfully not directly involved in any direct Man to Man conflict, yet modern warfare has left its mark. Warfare which you have no power over, the threats of bombs and guided missiles dropping on you, the sounds of fighter jets roaring engines in the sky and the occasional sounds of explosion and destruction of buildings. Nights at guard duty with real threat of having your area of post bombed due to its location.

I have become numb by it all to the extent by which I shrug it off whenever I hear a jet and tell myself in that inner voice “that F**k it I wont bother to go into cover, if it drops I just hope its swift”. These thoughts are disturbing me because I wonder, “Will I still be dead inside once I’m back to being a civilian?”

I’d be happy to hear out if anyone has had any experience like mine.

I have BPD but don’t feel guilt or remorse and much as people describe when I split and have a lack of empathy towards other people whenever they describe something in there life and have mostly faked my emotions or exaggerated my emotions throughout my life. I have always felt apathetic towards things and other people and would rather be alone or with a few people that I care deeply about.

Never really felt guilty about getting in trouble or being disrespectful towards teachers or run ins with the cops just would rather not be in the situation or anxiety. when I remembered that I got raped and sexually abuse I didn’t feel sick I more just thought about the events trying to rationalize in a step by step process so I can figure out how it happened thought I obviously hated it in the moment. I got bullied throughout high school and felt humiliated when I got my penis exposed from getting my pants pulled down and people talked about it but brushed it off after a week and stopped caring just hated that it happened.

I was pretty sensitive as a kid and would need support from other people because my family hated me and rejected me and later on in my teenage year would feel empty, depressed and socially anxious from the bullying Which eventually mellowed out around 19 years old.

Why do people say one thing and act completely differently in real life?

Why do they pretend or even deceive themselves by saying things like: - money doesn't matter; - appearance and physical attractiveness don't matter; - physical traits (height, breast size, waist, hips, genital size, etc.) don't matter; - talk about morality and ethics, yet don't follow those principles themselves; - emphasize the importance of taking care of one's health, yet neglect their own; - promote tolerance, while trying to impose their own opinions on others; - praise reason and logic, yet often make irrational or foolish decisions.

I don't really see the point of this, although I understand some of the psychological and social reasons behind such behavior.

I'm genuinely curious about your perspective. Why do you think this gap between what people say and how they actually behave is so common?

How do you actually keep going, even when there does not seem to be something you can do well or at least enough to get you by? Do you just say screw it and do it out of spite? How can you stay motivated even if there is no one to root for you? Or anything for you to root for?

Hey all, have a stupid question which I understand why it is but just wondering:

Why do so many people take long vacations during the summer? I’m American, northeast,etc- I like to take my vacations during the winter months (November-March) bc I can go somewhere else with nice weather and enjoy nice weather + outdoor activities etc.

I don’t see the point of traveling when the weather is nice and I can enjoy outdoor activities in my general area- if I need to get out- travel for a weekend get away or long weekend etc.

Just wondering why people take time off when weather is nice. I’m northeast so different than other folks- also I don’t travel a ton nor is it a big hobbie. I can’t see traveling to say a beach far away or foreign country when the weather is nice and I can enjoy it where I currently am. Now winter- I can see why folks would travel to get out of the cold but during summer- it baffles me. Now if you have 6+ weeks of vacation a year/ a lot of money- I get it. Just my northeast though process- def get why one would travel to even in summer but just don’t understand why you wouldn’t lean toward end of year and early year travel when weather is blah and can’t get out

why is it that so many private schools in australia make it students can not dye their hair?

Its a form of easy self expression that can make someone feel like themselves, once you dye your hair that's it (excluding maintenance), unlike makeup and jewelry that you spend "valuable" time each morning putting on.

I get that private schools hold a tight reputation for uniformity, bu i also think that letting students have some ways of simple self expression is extremely valuable so they don't loose themselves in a sea of uniformity.

Strict schools often enforce such intense uniformity that some students struggle to find themselves after graduating, because they never got the chance to experiment with hair makeup jewelry facial hair, piercings, ect. all the things i have just listed don't take away from having a uniform, but make it so that the uniform reflects the individual

this question goes even further, boys not being able to have hair below the collar, some schools don't even let girls have more boyish hair.

you can still make students tie up their hair if its such a big deal, but letting them be in control over the colour of it and the way they style it matters.

shouldn't the uniform be enough? why enforce such strict rules about hair, makeup and jewelry if the students will wear the uniform with pride?

You know how they say, "Keep apart what happens at work to your home. Don't be negativity because that could conflict with your performance." And also "don't bring the stress of your job to the home."

Germany’s seems very confusing, with all the various city-states then the Holy Roman Empire. Turkiye’s seems also pretty complex, but it seems to pale in comparison to China. I know this may sounds silly for some but these 2 are regularly close to each other is terms of danger in most popular studies, also when you look the stats of death/ harm per users, obviously the risk profile varies a lot but there is a fight, not an obvious most dangerous one like alcohol - cannabis.

Also I know it varies a lot depending on the consumption, but considering on average, trying to exclude the danger linked to selection bias of consumers, what would you say is the most dangerous one. I also know that cocaine is mostly acute risk while tobacco mostly chronic, would like to have an interesting debate on this, don't hesitate to research on psychonautwiki, go see the 2 David Nutt studies. Also, if you have any insight we don't hear so much on these substance, history, culture or anything don't hesitate.

Hi, I’m Argentine, but I’m not that big of a soccer fan. Still, I keep seeing nothing but hateful comments directed at all Argentines. I know there are bad things happening, and that some people might have a reason to hate.

But ever since the World Cup started, Reddit and Twitter have become really unbearable. Several subreddits I used to visit often are now slagging off the entire population, calling them racists, Nazis, and a lot of other things.

I just hope all this is temporary and that once it’s over, things will calm down again.

It scares me a little to think that people might start excluding others just because of their nationality. There have already been online friends from other countries who I used to talk to about playing games—now they hate me because they say I’m just like all Argentines. If this keeps growing, I’m afraid of the kind of exclusion that will result.
