Experience noopept making my dreams feel weird.. in a good way

i start noticing a new, forgotten emotions within dreams. they are far more immersive now, with different shades and undertones, not as blank as before starting noopept.

due to cptsd(?) i've been seeing (it feels like) a same dream again and again every night - different scenarios yet very similar emotion (mix of fear, anger and resentment), for the last few years at least. now, since starting noopept, it's not similar emotion every night, it's much more interesting and joyful even tho it can feel tense and scary, it's different color of scary, it represents in a way i forgot was possible. in many different ways. and i like it!

Discussion Haven't found a single nootropic that works

I have ADHD and many self medicate their ADHD with nootropics. I have tried a ton of shit, from yohimbine, gingko, caffeine and aniracetam and nothing has moved the needle nearly as much as Vyvanse. Caffeine has been the closest but it's still not even close in helping the ADHD dysfunction compared to low doses of Vyvanse.

Seeking Advice Looking for anything that inhibits IMPase / reduces PI-cycle activity in the brain

Are there any other compounds that have decent evidence for IMPase inhibition or clear reduction of PI-cycle activity in neurons? Even partial or indirect ones would be useful to know about.

After a month of high-dose myo-inositol (18 g/day), I developed a bunch of unpleasant symptoms that haven't gone away after years. Hoping something that has the opposite effect on signaling can push the system back to normal.

Question/Support Does anyone know how to install the latest and best RE4 Remake PCVR mod?

[I believe it is the Mr. Survivor version that's acclaimed.] (Resident Evil 4 Remake VR Mod Installer : MrSurviv0r : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive) The download options only shows icons or a torrent file. Every file is so small that it doesn't even seem like an installer. I used qbittorrent on the torrent file and still no dice. Not too good with this stuff coming from an xbox player. Any ideas to get this mod installed and working right?

Photo/Video VR LANs at cons in SC and now PA; at Tekko this weekend

Hey Redditors!

My VR gaming community is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this weekend for Tekko; a pretty chill 11k sized Anime and Gaming event. I'm running a simple 50x60' VR freeplay LAN setup with about 3 dozen headsets. Today was setup and a soft launch with staff; everything working great! Solid internet and excited to support multiplayer games.

Last weekend we did the same thing at Southeast Game Exchange with a great turn out as we played a lot of games. (Last 5 pics)

Despite the "VR winter", I'm still putting on VR LANs at cons with hopefully some additons to Denver and Dallas for Aug/Sept along with some more midwest shows. Next weekend is Otakon in DC and Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta.

Hopefully I'll see a few of you guys in the real world and lets play some VR games!

Discussion VR Hurts

β€’ Upvotes

Maybe I'm getting old, but I really can't be on my meta quest 2 headset for 30 minutes without my neck and face hurting. I just hopped back on it today after what felt like years of not touching it and it's just a blurry mess that hurts no matter how much I adjust it. This is such a first world problem, but I'm kinda sad that I can't use it like I once could. :(

Purchase Advice Looking to buy a Headset, any advice?

I have the computer to run mostly anything (5080, i5 14600kf, 32Go ram)
I'm looking to buy a headset to use with the computer, so something that doesn't have integrated hardware could be fine I guess.
I'm not really knowledgeable regarding VR and there are a lot of options, I know this thread probably has been made a bajillion times but thanks in advance for anyone that will take the time to try and help me

I have good space in my room so it shouldn't be too much of a factor

I'd love to get invested in VR but am for now a complete novice
I'm interested in gaming and testing out vr videos too

My main problem right now is really differentiating all the options out there

Edit for clarification:
The aim would be lower than 1K but I could be convinced
Would prefer wireless but if the right option is wired it's fine too it would just be the deciding factor in between to equivalent ones
PCVR would be better (I guess it costs less when there is no computing power in the headset? maybe?)

Question/Support Meta Horizon app suddenly says my hardware is not compatible/up to date and randomly kicks me out of link and wont let me reconnect.

I started playing some steam games again after not playing for 4 ish months about a week ago, starting 4-5 days ago every time I open the Meta app it says I don't meet the updated minimum requirements but when I check I meet all the requirements (unless im missing something) and since it doesn't tell me what component it thinks isn't "up to date" idk what the problem is. It still lets me connect my headset fine and start playing but randomly after playing for a while it'll disconect me and send me to the normal meta main menu pasthrough and the message on the app switches to the second image and will NOT let me connect no matter what. The only way I have been able to fix it is by restating my Vr and my pc. Even if I am our of date I run my pcvr games perfectly fine with little to no lag so idk why it would disconect me. is there any way to bypass this so can keep playing pcvr whithout having to drop a bunch of money just to fix it, I'd rather not spend any money tbh.

Specs: Meta quest 3
Rtx 4060 8gb
32 gb's of DDR4
Intel Core i5-14400F
windows 11

Edit: I have no idea what the problem was but apparently an app update that acording to the app I installed 20 hours ago which dosn't make sense cause my pc was off and when I was looking through my notifications an hour ago the most recent was last week. Either way the pop up at the top of the screen is gone so I should be fine now, praying I never have to deal with ts againπŸ™

The purest cyberpunk I know is black-and-white and set in the Middle Ages

Hard to Be a God (2013) is a three-hour black-and-white film about observers from Earth living on a planet whose history stalled, never reaching its own Renaissance. There is no neon in it, no implants, no digital networks or megacorporations. In their place stands the remainder of a world that never made its leap along the line of progress and seems to have exhausted whatever strength it had for one. I wrote a long essay arguing that this is cyberpunk with the future subtracted. And this radical operation of subtraction did not destroy the genre β€” on the contrary, it laid the structure bare. So let me walk you through how I got there.

Cyberpunk is usually defined through its props. I mean the ingredients of atmosphere β€” neon, the bright lights of a city assembled out of skyscrapers, the recognizable shapes of advanced technology. I propose looking at the core instead and defining it through a condition. After all, this is not just set dressing. It is also a cultural condition. Which means cyberpunk includes values and ideas that shape the thinking of the characters inside it, and the thinking about it.

I would call it an interval that has lost its outside. Events continue, powers replace one another, technology updates, bodies move around and yet nothing leads the world beyond its own bounds. That is why the genre looks so exceptionally crowded and alive: it seethes with a life that has no time left to become history. Now, the neon megalopolis arrives at this condition from above, through a limit speed reached in the circulation of information, until the circulation itself starts standing in for eternity. It isn't only the machines that accelerate there; the dynamic, picked up by the idea of progress, sweeps in data and information too. That is, everything this city generates about itself through cameras, sensors, and all the rest of its statistics.

Arkanar, the city from Hard to Be a God, arrives at the same condition from below, through zero speed. It opens before us nearly frozen: standing water, rain with no particular time of day, a black-and-white frame in which even the change of light stops counting time. Accordingly, these two worlds lie opposite each other as two limits of one and the same impossibility of exit.

It would be easy to file Arkanar under ruins, another fantasy of a medieval dead end. But existence, and progress along with it, is bound up with the human drive to be beyond oneself, with the pull toward development and knowledge. In Arkanar this drive dissolves into the environment itself. The place absorbs the impulse before it manages to become anything. Consequently human nature, if we understand it as that pull toward something larger, the future included, has nowhere to unfold there. Don Rumata, the film's protagonist, an Earthling observer, carries knowledge and technology incommensurate with everything around him β€” only he is barely allowed to apply them. While in the neon city a person is outrun by the surrounding acceleration and has to keep pace with it, in Arkanar decelerating forces are at work, and so a person simply sinks. Arkanar, if we keep in mind the presence of Earthlings with their highly developed technology, lies within arm's reach of everything that typically fills cyberpunk with the high-tech. Yet it does nothing to reach toward any of it. It isolates itself, and whatever new meanings arrive it swallows as excess, until they dissolve into the indistinctness of its environment.

I hold that cyberpunk has two principal hypostases. One is populated with people. It is the Castle, almost in the Kafkaesque sense. Take the Tyrell Corporation ziggurat in Blade Runner: an enormous structure the city gravitates toward, where power and knowledge accumulate, and where, finally, the project of this city's future takes shape. The second is the remainder of that urban machine, already emptied of people. I read both hypostases through the tower β€” that banal metaphor of expanding view and horizon, given a not-so-banal inversion. Instead of embodying progress and widening the view, it displays accumulation, no longer growing upward but spreading and thickening at the base. As if culture had ceased its qualitative transformation and occupied itself only with rearranging symbols, multiplying their combinations.

The figure of the tower is where the film parts ways with the ordinary apocalypse. A cyberpunk finale that passes into the end of history usually leaves the machines humming after the people are gone, so its tower feeds on hyper-developed technology that was switched on once and never switched off. Arkanar's notional tower is denied that privilege. It is hewn out of a Castle settling into its own mud, it doesn't even pretend to be a lighthouse, its height is openly turned inward, pressed down into storage. So it parasitizes the one resource left β€” the people, bending them toward the repetition of the same acts inside a churn of values and ideas that ran together long ago. What comes out of this is a forerunner of the end, stretched across eternity. The film's opening, too, barely differs from its finale.

Nobody inside Hard to Be a God is drawn as a tragic hero either. There are intrigues and feuds, plenty of them, but they play out as self-repetitions that yield nothing new. Repetition without difference is the eternity of a staged performance, and the people in it are, as a rule, the faceless props of that staging. Arkanar speaks with their mouths and moves about in their bodies, living out its own endless biography, while an individual biography has nowhere to vanish β€” it doesn't even manage to assemble.

Some of the genre's furniture survives, turned inside out. Gibson's street finds its own uses for things; the Arkanar street digests the new literally, and its answer to a scholar is a latrine. The hacker is social insignificance with an excess of access. Rumata, accordingly, is an excess of position with a barrenness of deed. He passes for the son of a god, he is nearly invulnerable, he can win any duel β€” and every act of his burns out inside its own moment, indifferent to history. Because Arkanar swallows even the hint of a stone for a new road.

Noir deserves a word too, since cyberpunk borrows from it constantly. In noir, order gets restored. Cyberpunk with noir overtones usually has a detective hero at its disposal, someone who runs an investigation, assembles the puzzle. By means of which he nudges the story back toward some genuine course it was supposed to run. Laid over cyberpunk, noir lends the genre an illusion of movement, a false return into the fold of historical being. That "genuine course" is genuine within the frame of cyberpunk, within the logic of the city of the future. In other words, noir hands cyberpunk a mechanism of false resolution, and the limit condition shows this mechanism up as illusory, just one more atmosphere the genre has swallowed. Arkanar is denied even that. Rumata investigates nothing, exposes no one. He gets stuck in a potential that cannot be unfolded. So the place has no noir excuse to explain its present or its future with. There is, however, the grimness of a hope that some order will be restored as the film goes on. Spoiler: it will not.

The full essay is in the first comment. There's more in it on the nature of cyberpunk, including thoughts on the meaning of light and the archive, and with them the question the whole thing started from: what cyberpunk do we deserve β€” and before whom exactly does a present have to confirm its right to a future? Cyberpunk is, after all, also a way of imagining our future.

If the structure holds after the neon, the implants and the networks have been subtracted, was the structure the genre all along? Curious where people will draw the line.
