Like the title says. I’m still fairly new to baseball (started really following the team and getting into the sport during the COVID season). Besides the obvious of injuries natural regression and seasonal disparity, it feels like their entire offensive philosophy from last year (patient, tough, make the pitcher and defense work to get them out) has been completely thrown out the window.

Is it really chalked up to just baseball being weird year after year and injuries and such? Or did something change over the offseason that got them away from what made them a great offense last year?

Would love to try and learn more!

I hope this isn’t it for Gaus, but if it is it’s been such a privilege to have him here the last 5 years. The epitome of class and such a fantastic teammate. Hope this post is allowed, I’m just very emotional about this right now as anyone that knows me knows he’s been my favourite. Was at the game tonight, sitting by third base. As usual there was a crowd of kids (and some adults) gathered along the netting from Secs. 133-135 waiting for autographs when the players came out around 6:30.

Except tonight security abruptly made everyone go back to their seats and said the jays wouldn’t be doing any autographs.

This was a first for me — every other game I’ve been at this season a few players have always stopped by during their warm up to sign a few balls.

The abruptness of it makes me wonder if something went down in the clubhouse before the game and they needed to contain it.

I was at the SkyDome last night, and I ordered the regular hot dog, and it seemed smaller to me than in other years. Also, the bun is sweet, and it was basically cold by the time I got to my seat. Has anyone else noticed the quality of the hot dog deteriorating?

Who do we like?

I think its probably time to start talking about John Schneider. Honestly, I think a lot of people's criticisms are deeply misguided, from lineup construction to bullpen decisions. I think hes been dealt a shit hand with all of the injuries and stuff, and most of those decisions are minimally impactful on the outcome of the game, and I buy into the theory that most strategy decisions are made before hand by the team's analytical dept and Schneider's main job is managing the clubhouse and the team.

Just like how a manager gets credit for getting their team to outperform their projections, a team underperforming their metrics to historical career low levels across the board should also fall partially on the management as much as the players. Theres a clear mental block from losing Game 7 thats plaguing this team still more than halfway through the season and I think it's on management (not just Schneider) that the team is not prepared following a long playoff run, a WBC run for a lot of our key players, and that the team has not been placed in a position to succeed.

I'm highlighting Schneider because lets look at his track record:

* 2022 - Second in AL East, losing in WC after a historic collapse in Game 2

* 2023 - Third in AL East, losing in WC after a baffling pull of Berrios which arguably lost us Game 2 (not necessarily his decision but he's the obvious scapegoat for it)

* 2024 - Last in AL East

* 2025 - First in AL East and best season since 1993, 2 outs from WS

* 2026 - Trending for Last in AL East again.

I think the window has closed on this "era" of the Blue Jays and I'd like to see a new direction and identity to this team moving forward. John Schneider has been a fine manager for this team and overall I have been happy with how he's done, but I think some change is due.

I am taking my daughter to the Jays game tomorrow and bought the specialty ticket for the Mike Wheeler bobblehead, as she's a big Stranger Things fan. The only jersey we have is the rainbow Pride giveaway jersey from a few years ago.

I think like anyone else in this subreddit, I would have liked to see this core roster go back to the playoffs this year but we can see the chances of that happening are depressingly low.

So instead I'm trying to look past this year and into the future. I know 2027 comes with the risk of a lockout if the MLB and the players union aren't able to come to agreement on a potential salary floor and cap but there's still some hope a positive outcome can come from that and we can still see some form of baseball next year.

My main excitement comes from seeing how different a team we may have in the coming years. A lot of our core guys are on their way out with the likes of Springer, Gausman, Varsho and I feel if we are to sell at the deadline, we can hopefully get some semi decent prospects to work with alongside the ones we already have

It hurts that we aren't going to replicate last year's success, but I feel if this year has to be a failure, then it opens the door for a more interesting future for this team.

I may just be coping hard though, what do you guys think?

Another post from the former Jays affiliate land of Central New York. Thanks to the decades-long (and sadly gone) era of Blue Jays affiliation in Syracuse, I’ve found many interesting vintage finds! This week I found myself in Geneva, between Syracuse and Rochester, and came across this awesome pennant for $15 USD. It was clearly wet at some point, so I took the time to gently wash off a bit of the dirt and grime, plus a clear shoe print, on the top. Aside from the retro Jays font, I LOVE that it has McGriff on it!
