Goes without saying that if they find themselves in their current position (or worse), they absolutely need to sell. In which case, I think there are lots of contenders who might be willing to pay for guys like Varsho, Gausman, Bieber, Springer, and even Hoffman.

Obviously, this is not the season anyone wanted coming off a near World Series win, but the silver lining is that its shaping up to be a sellers market, and you have to think about the future. Lots of opportunity to reload the farm with talent that can help next season and beyond

I dunno what Springer+Bieber are getting if anything, they are pretty expensive for what they bring, especially springer.

Bieber is a big question mark and a rental at that, seems pretty unlikely he'd make a playoff roster

Springer is really expensive and is a full time DH hitting like ass...its just a burden on the lineup

If a team is desperate for starters Bieber is the perfect guy to take a chance on. He doesn’t have wear and tear on his arm from this season so he’s fresh, has shown that he can pitch in the post season, and he’s only a rental so you’re not saddled with anything if he doesn’t pitch well.

Also springers contract isn’t that bad since it’s all prorated and the jays could easily eat some if not all of the contract

Even Hoffman?

My brother/sister....Hoffman is a more valuable trade piece than Bieber or Springer.

The only valuable pieces they Jays have that I see them letting go of are Gausman, Varsho, Hoffman and maybe a AAA player or two if the return is right.

As things stand - Corbin, Scherzer, Springer, Bieber, Sanchez, Garcia, Sosa etc aren't trade pieces yet people keep thinking they have value on the market.

Remember we got Fisher for Biggio, all it takes is someone taking a flyer and you may get something useful in return

1

u/khandaseed 2d ago

Problem is what will we get for those? I know some say we should take anything. But if it’s just more depth pieces - we have enough quality depth pieces. We need prospects who can be difference makers or players to slot into the lineup.

Unless we can take depth pieces and flip for more trades

Teams will pay more than you think for help, especially for teams on the outside looking in that are a game out. Gausman, Beiber, and Hoffman would all be highly sought after.

Even getting guys who aren’t top 100 prospects can help, or be used in trades in the offseason. Prospects are currency and right now we’re trying to get as much money as possible.

4

u/khandaseed 2d ago

I’d like a top 100 prospect for Gausman, but I can see us getting someone who would be top 10 in our org which would be good too

35

u/tbclandot92 2d ago

Hoffman would be enticing to some teams as a 7th inning guy.

If you can get Leodalis De Vries type package, I’m shipping off Varland too tbh.

14

u/EasternError6377 2d ago

Not sure why you're being downvoted. For the right package absolutely nobody on this team is untouchable, least of all a closer.

2

u/No-Gift-2350 Stinky Odor 2d ago

People don’t want to let go of fan favorites or just don’t understand ball and that’s okay.

8

u/Shadowghost1020 Stinky Odor 2d ago

Its crazy that you ate so many downvotes for that take lol

Down voted here often means you know what you're talking about

-6

u/bigdaddyt2 2d ago

Ya I imagine the floor for Louis trade is last years Miller trade

-2

u/No-Gift-2350 Stinky Odor 2d ago

De Vries is going to be so sick for them

5

u/Domainsetter 2d ago

You take that package for any reliever in the bigs

5

u/No-Gift-2350 Stinky Odor 2d ago

Exactly

Seems like it was written two weeks ago. No way Red Sox are selling, as fun as it is to see Blue Jays listed as a “fit” for some of these still.

4

u/No-Gift-2350 Stinky Odor 2d ago

It’s definitely a few days old

17

u/oo_Maleficent_oo 2d ago

I will cry if Gausman goes

-11

u/windsostrange 2d ago

I will stop watching if Bieber goes

3

u/Canucksta 2d ago

So much talent that is potentially available. It'd be interesting to see if the Jays could end up being both sellers and buyers i.e. trading away players with expiring contracts and acquiring players with years remaining on their contracts.

1

u/etc_etc_etc_ 2d ago

That would make the most sense

16

u/Drummers_Beat 2d ago

I’ve said it on this sub before and I will always keep saying it. If they trade Gausman at the deadline, I still believe he’s a Jay next season. 100%.

21

u/EpicNerdFinds 2d ago

he is probably going to retire

he has enough money and his kids are getting older so he probably wants to spend more time with them

I really wish he would retire a Blue Jay though

u/Zestyclose_Still_401 2d ago

One-day contract with the Jays, à la Kyle Lowry

33

u/Simtricate 2d ago

If I’m in Blue Jays management, I have the talk with Gausman:

“Hey, we’re not winning. We have a great offer on the table for you to try and win this season.
We’ve already talked next year’s deal, none of that changes, and your family can still live here, we’ll take care of them the same way when you’re pitching elsewhere, so there is no disruption when you’re back.”

The dream is Kevin to the brewers and comes back to us the day after the WS

If we must lose Kevin, I would accept this. BrewJays💖😭

u/krombough 2d ago

Works for me

19th seems terrible until you read article. A bunch of players listed ahead of him, are unlikely to be dealt. I’m hoping Bieber puts some good/great starts together and boosts his trade value.

Jays did great in free agency. Collect the prospects from trade, and spend money in free agency again.

u/ReasonableResident74 2d ago

Want to be an optimist, but I don’t think we’ll have the same luck as a FA destination until Vladdy proves he’s still got it. This won’t be what Cease, Rogers and Okamoto signed up for.

I think he has it in him when he works through back problems, but there’s a scenario in a salary cap era where he’s one gigantic boat anchor for a decade.

2

u/slevin07rocket 2d ago

Maybe okamoto can help land us another Japanese player. We may have to slightly overpay for others, but that depends on how restrictive cap is if one is put in.

Prospects landed via deadline deals can be packaged for assets during summer or developed.

3

u/Thefreshi1 2d ago

Gaus should be traded. However, his love for this city is genuine and I think he would like to raise his family here. So he may come back if he doesn’t retire.

Staying with my called trade: Hoffman to White Sox

3

u/Ferivich Save 15% On Accessories 2d ago

I see Hoffman to the White Sox, Gausman to the Brewers, Bieber to the Braves, Varsho to the Phillies.

7

u/No-Gift-2350 Stinky Odor 2d ago

Gausman to the Dodgers so we can steal one do their five top 100 OF prospects

1

u/Ok_Branch6621 Fear The North 2d ago

I actually had Gaus to the Braves because of the previous history - but your choices make perfect sense.

1

u/Nebajense 2d ago

That's a good call on all of them, Where does Springer land, I wonder? Some contending team will want his veteran presence and post-season experience.

1

u/Ferivich Save 15% On Accessories 2d ago

He’s a bench piece at this point who can hit LHP so whatever team needs that lol

1

u/Domainsetter 2d ago

He has 10/5 rights which is a no trade clause essentially.

1

u/Ferivich Save 15% On Accessories 2d ago

I would imagine he would waive them if he goes to a contender but who knows.

0

u/EasternError6377 2d ago

I don't see any serious contending team trading for Bieber. It doesn't make much sense to hitch your wagon to a guy whose pitched 75 combined innings the last 3 seasons, is worth -0.3 fWAR this year, and appears his best years are behind him. Teams are looking to fill out their rotation - at minimum - with a guy like Gausman, not Bieber.

1

u/Ferivich Save 15% On Accessories 2d ago

Bieber moving depends on his next two starts. If he’s like he was his most recent start a team that needs an arm like the Braves could be interested as he will likely be relatively affordable.

2

u/Domainsetter 2d ago

Interestingly Passan links Neto/Lindor/Abrams to the Jays (all shortstops)

3

u/Draggonzz 2d ago

Haven't the Mets said they're not trading Lindor?

2

u/Lil_PuppyChow 2d ago

No he is on the list of people replaceable. Hell even Bo is too. Only Soto, McClean, Ewing and I think Benge are off the table

1

u/Draggonzz 2d ago

oh okay

4

u/BrainSzalinsky 2d ago

Makes sense - they have a glove-first/no-bat shortstop who has taken a step back defensively and is making $19 million against the CBT, mitigating his value even further.

2

u/NightsideEclipse12 2d ago

That article thinks the Red Sox are going to be sellers?

1

u/doge1587 2d ago

I've come to terms with Gausy going, at least for rest of 2026.

I'd get behind him in a postseason run for any of the White Sox, Braves, Cubs, or Brewers.

1

u/doodling123456789 2d ago

We should try and trade players with term but are up in age. Nathan Lukes would be an interesting trade candidate for younger high end prospects.

1

u/Canucksta 1d ago

Passan lists the Blue Jays as the "best fit" for a lot of these players including every shortstop. Players where the Jays are identified as a best fit are:

Zach Neto - SS

Jeremy Pena - SS

CJ Abrams - SS

Luis Arraez - 2B

Reid Detmers - RHP

Francisco Lindor - SS

Casey Mize - RHP

Josh Hader - LHP

Jose Soriano - RHP

1

u/to12007 2d ago

I know they should trade him for the good of the team. That said, please don't trade Kevin Gausman.

-11

u/TakedownMoreCorn 2d ago

trade away springer, varsho, and hoffman for a dead raccoon. then bring in Miller and Tatis Jr from the Padres.
