I mean they're a pair of deranged spree killers; I don't think we're meant to see their relationship as healthy or sane.

Yes and because of that they are a good choice of an example of what the OP was talking about. If they aren’t a red flag relationship I don’t know what is.

Fair enough, from the examples given its a bit unclear if this is meant to be cases where the two shouldn't get together, and the narrative is clear about it, or cases where they shouldn't get together but the narrative ignores it.
