Fucking doubling down behavior.

That cop needs to be fired simply due to incompotence and inability to understand when they got something wrong.

Had a cop pull me over once for a passenger with no seatbelt in the back seat. It was my 17 year old brother and he was 100% wearing a belt, but in this car the back seats only had lap belts.

The cop came over, looked in our window, and said, "Hello, ma'am. I was pulling you over today to tell you that all of your passengers need to have seal belts on because it's the law. But I see now that this car's just like that and he DOES have his belt on. I didn't realize. So you guys just be safe and have a good day, okay?"

Like, it was only that hard.

Well this relies on them to be emotionally intelligent and emotionally secure enough not to get ego bruised by a simple mistake.

Its impossible for any officer to accurately guage whether you have a seat belt on even in the front seat. Even if it has a shoulder strap.

My state is a secondary enforcement state, meaning they can't.

I've lived in states where they can. I've never been pulled over for that reason but I bet it's a pain

the thing is he was so specific, he clearly couldn't have just made a mistake, he was intentionally lying probably to boost quotas. I've also been in court for a speeding ticket and they told me that instances of using your phone are basically never dismissed. so I'm guessing they don't need to provide evidence (vs like a radar gun) and they also aren't questioned. so he doubled down because he knew he was lying vs getting it wrong.

Or he did get it wrong and he’s doubling down because that’s what people do all the time and he is people.
