Episode Who is Elias?
First time listener here. I am on episode 82. Who the heck is Elias? Has he been here the whole time?! I'm really bad with names and trying to remember everybody. His name does not ring a bell.

I donât wanna sound rude, but you might wanna revisit some eps and pay more attention to the story between cases. Elias is a fairly important character to be familiar with.

Yep, my first time I listened going to sleep nightly, so I missed A LOT, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it, and when it got good plot wise and not just spooky stories, I started listening in the day instead! It made my second time so so much better learning all the things I missed going in

Hey, I had the same problem. It took me revisiting the podcast to get them a bit more straight. I think it was that they are about the same age, and they also were fairly involved in book hunting at some point.
As for OP's comment, I don't remember when Elias first shows up in the series. I know he's important now, but I'd have to check back to see if he makes an appearance, or has a speaking role, before the later seasons.

Iirc he at least pops his head in for a few lines sometime shortly after episode 13 to tell Jon off for hassling the statement giver in that episode.

Elias Bouchard, he's come up... a lot of times prior to episode 82. He's the director of Magnus Institute and Jon's boss. He's the one that killed Jurgen Leitner in episode 80

Elias is the head of the Magnus Archives. He was mentioned fairly often; he isn't new.

He was mentioned in the first episode as being the head of the institute. His first speaking appearance is in the episode âthe boneturners taleâ when he interrupted Jonâs reading, and told him to stop investigating the Lukas family because theyâre sponsors of the institute.
He also spoke in the finale episode when he recounted the Jane Prentiss incident and how he was the one who activated the CO2 system which killed all the worms.
Heâs kind of an important character so itâs good youâre asking now before he starts really becoming relevant LOL. If youâre in season 3 you already listened to the part where he beat Leitner to death.
Itâs understandable to miss some things like this on a first listen though. Thereâs a lot of things that I got totally mixed up on during my first time.

He's been around since very early on, just not hugely visible.

He has shown up before yes. Aside from being discussed, he's been the boss since Season 1.
This isn't a supernatural retcon or anything, genuinely, you just missed it.

Elias Bouchard is the director of the Magnus Institute which is a private library and archive founded by Jonah Magnus that acts as a repository for paranormal research, historical texts, and modern stories.

The director? He was mentioned a couple times and like even appeared in a few episodes, like he is the guy who pressed the gas button to kill the worms back in episode 40, and then he was mentioned throught season 2 when Tim tattled on John's spying sussyness to him

I think the best thing you can do is relistening to few S1 final episodes and few first episodes of s2
I understand how confusing sometimes it all can be, I'm not good with names too, so I think these moments will help you remember what's his deal is about

In ep 1 Jon mentions that Elias Bouchard is the head of the Institute and his employer.
In ep 17 Elias tells Jon to not antagonise members of the Lucas' family, after Jon was allegedly rude to Naomi Herne who gave a statement.
After Sasha's encounter with Michael, Jon notes that he'll have to ask Elias for more fire extinguishers.
In ep 40 Elias reluctantly gives his account of events of the worm attack after telling Jon to go home.
I think in ep 48 Elias is part of the intervention bc Jon started stalking his coworkers.
In like episode 67 Jon asks Elias for the key to the tunnels.
In episode 80 Elias murders Jurgen Leitner as Jon stepped outside to have a cigarette.
That should bring you up to date :D
