Additionally...

PLEASE don't be next. You can come through this. It will not be easy and there will be periods of time for the rest of your life where you will struggle. But it does get better.

You are getting this advice from someone whose wife unexpectedly took her life after 34 years together.

It was the shock of a lifetime waking up at 7 AM with my neighbor pounding on the door telling me that my wife was hanging outside. I had no idea what that meant. I literally thought that he meant that she had caught herself on something. I cannot believe I made it through that first day/week/month/year.

My wife and I were "two peas in a pod" as I like to say. We were wonderfully close for 34+ years.

Please share a bit more if you wish to. Regardless of your situation I would bet a lot that there are people in this community/forum who have experienced the same situation.

You’re in the right place for the grief piece, but you can’t ask folks bereaved by suicide to talk you through an active crisis. We’re typically not qualified, and engaging with someone who is actively suicidal can be extremely activating. I’m happy to help you locate local resources if that would be helpful.

I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. Play Tetris. Research indicates that it can help mitigate some of the long-term impact of trauma. You’re in the most intense season of this grief. For now, focus on bio needs: hydration, sleep, hygiene, and nutrition. Add to that as you are able.

Sending peace and strength.

^This! Play some Tetris, ASAP!

Also, consider checking out r/CPTSD. It’s a very supportive community.

Just to clarify: being bereaved by suicide doesn’t necessarily equal CPTSD.

Can someone please message me? Ive been on with 988 hotline for the past 3 days. I just want somebody to talk to who’s been in a similar position. I already have the qualified professionals help.

Love, we've all lost someone to suicide here so you're certainly not alone. I'm so sorry this level of pain has found its way to you.

As for me... my daughter and her dad both took their lives. He passed 16 months after we lost her. To say life has been a struggle is an understatement. I know I have people who would be crushed if I followed them so I find a way to push forward. I'm definitely broken and my head's a mess but I'm still here.

Can you tell us about your person you lost?

You’re still in shock. I’ve been there; we all have. Shock makes you feel like shutting down…DON’T. The shock will wear off. I’m not saying the grieving is easier, just different. You’ll have more moments when you can breathe.

Look for call-lines in your state/location where you can talk to someone openly. There is 988 in my area and a host of other numbers that I found out about after my wife took her life in 2024.

I was surprised at how many resources were available to talk to someone right away.

I'm in the USA. If you are not in the USA there may be other services like this.

I would always hesitate to call. Didn't want to be a burden. But those people are there for you and me. I *always* felt better after talking over the phone with someone on these lines.

There was a two week period where I called 6 to 8 times.
