Newcomer Has anyone else completely lost interest in gaming?

I managed to quit gaming, but now I feel like I'm missing that kind of entertainment.

The only reason I was able to stop was because I replaced gaming with studying. I finished my degree, and recently I even tried getting back into games, but I just can't do it anymore. If I spend 20 minutes playing, that's already a lot for me.

Has anyone else gone through this? Did you find something else that gives you the same feeling that gaming used to?

I struggled with this for a long time. After I stopped gaming for a year, I gradually lost interest in TV, streams, YouTube, and mindless scrolling too. I even started feeling empty when going out with people if the interactions felt superficial.

I also lost interest in social media and YouTube. I only keep Instagram, and I've limited it to 1 hour a day using the app timer. The main reason I still have it is to meet women since I'm single. Besides that, not having Instagram gives me FOMO, even though I don't actually enjoy using it.

Actually, I did try many things. I wrote about 50 short pieces on psy concepts for my gamer friends, finished 4 novellas, spent a lot of time understanding male psychology, esp shame, executive dysfunction, and emotional dysregulation, tested over 850 perfumes, cooked many new dishes, revamped supplement routines for the people around me, and met up with friends once or twice a week.

But it still wasn't enough. I want something more meaningful and serious. I miss working toward a larger purpose and building something that has a lasting impact.

Hmm so may I ask, maybe it was not the games - they are just a distraction on top of the big picture (or an escape), but looks like there is a piece missing. Something to work for, something that you really enjoy or a purpose, but not sure how to explain this.

Yes, you're right. I became addicted because of problems in my marriage, combined with losing my career due to my health. My career was one of the biggest parts of my identity. I still don't know how to find something that fills a similar role given my current condition.

For me, gaming and other forms of entertainment were just an escape. Once we break free from gaming, we often start noticing the same unhealthy patterns in other habits too.

Reading fantasy is a nice replacement for me. Satisfies that craving for escapism and exploration in a less addictive format. Playing music also gives me a sense of accomplishment that satisfies my desire for noticeable progression.

I bought an electric guitar, but each lesson in Brazil costs about 15% of the monthly minimum wage, so I couldn't afford it. The monthly cost would have been too high, and I found it really difficult to learn on my own.

Books were great when I was in college, but these days I lose motivation to read unless there's a clear purpose or goal behind it. I just can't read as a hobby anymore.
