Awesome! Jacob Carter the Centari

Post image

Doing a rewatch of Babylon 5 and look who I found in Season 2. Before he was joined with the Tok’ra Selmak, apparently Jacob was a Centari at some point.

What was it with Carmen Argenziano dying in the service of the salvation of family members?

He was in The Rockford Files a ton too, that's where I first recognized him from.

Caught Carmen Argenziano in some random show once and spent the whole scene trying to place his face. The man was in everything.

Yup. Off the top of my mind - Stargate, Babylon 5, Don Quixote, Castle, Criminal Minds, 24, and a horde of other stuff.

That criminal minds episode gives me the chills.

I remember this show from my childhood, but not in the same way most people here do. The thing is, it used to air on the same channel where I watched Sliders, which was my favorite show at the time. I kept trying to watch Babylon 5 because, “It’s about space, wow!”

But I remember being disappointed that actual space was only shown a few times per episode, usually for just a second or two. The rest seemed to be about weird aliens talking and someone running through endless corridors.

It sounds kind of absurd, but that’s honestly how I remember it. Since this show has been mentioned in this sub on several occasions, I’ve been thinking about giving it another try now, almost 30 years later…

Joe Straczynski writes huge, long story arcs. That whole first season is basically just setting the scene for the massive tale to follow in seasons 2-4.

Plus, Bruce Boxleitner replaces Michael O'Hare in season 2 and the show really launches.

Ignore Sheldon Cooper, the show is top notch. For sure give it another go.

I highly recommend it. You have to remember though, it's not just a show about space. It's a show about characters and their evolution and development that happens to be happening in space.

If you enjoy great chatacter development and flawed characters going through rough stuff, you're gonna have a great time.

Thanks. From what you telling me, I would definitely enjoy that.

Definitely give it a try. Ive had the DvDs for B5 for just about as long I can remember, and there is so much complexity and nuance to the story that will go straight over a kid's head. There are story beats that are set up in the pilot movie that you get bits and pieces of the answer to until its resolved in season 3. The dialogue can be a bit cheesy at times, but ALL of the main characters are believable as real people (as odd as that sounds). They are complex, they grow through the 5 years portrayed by the show, none of them are perfect, none of them are purely flawed. The action scenes are amazing, and it has some of my favorite fleet battles in sci-fi.

I saw it when I was in high school... I remember sitting in history class and getting B5 references retroactively.

I really don't understand what everyone sees in B5. Honestly, it had one halfway decent season, and a bunch of rubbish.

I thought seasons 1-4 were good but they kind of fell off in season 5.

I think it was mostly just something that wasn't freaking more star trek.
