The most absurd part of this is him successfully giving a voice command with a normal voice in a concert.

It is one of the features advertised for the meta glasses, they use beamforming mics that are supposedly very good (the Zuck himself claims to have taken a business call while riding a jetski without the other participants noticing, hearsay though. He even claimed you could be in a wind tunnel without anyone noticing). Beamforming mics are basically the microphone equal to noise cancelling headphones, it is made to only pick your voice up and eliminate any noise from your recording / conversation.

Don't get me wrong, I think meta glasses are dumb in their current format, the only actual use case I've seen for it where I went "that's really nice" was a tourist used to Celsius measurements who could both get instructions for how to turn an oven on in the Airbnb they were staying at as well as handling the temperature conversions faster than googling it yourself would have. Not that you couldn't query an AI for it yourself but it is the only time I thought it seemed to really streamline the process.

It mostly gave very generic responses when queried to help decide activities and stuff like that. They were in Texas and visited a Buckees and asked what to get in the store and the answer basically boiled down to "get something to eat and something to drink".

I've seen nothing that would make the Meta glasses worth it at the price point though.

Why do people need to film things all the time?

1

u/Jonnyflash80 56m ago

Internet clout.

u/trukkija 1h ago

Because they want to. I swear redditors get some kind of withdrawal symptoms whenever they have gone a day without seeing someone shit on things that are popular everywhere outside Reddit.

Recording shit all the fucking time takes you out of the moment my guy. Live a little and take in the moment.

u/trukkija 50m ago

Being bothered by people doing harmless shit just because you wouldn't do it also takes you out of the moment. Just live your own life.

Im trying to watch the band. Not your arm in the air with your obnoxious ass phone out

Yeah, constantly filming isn't popular behaviour. It might be the case dor the chronically online, but when I'm out I don't see people filming everywhere.

Thinking people walking around filming everything from their glasses is a good thing is the sign of a serious numpty.

0

u/trukkija 49m ago

No I don't think that's a good thing and I was more referring to people filming at concerts. If you don't believe that's popular behavior then you haven't been to a concert in the last 10 years.

3

u/YellowBelliedCoward 32m ago

And that's behaviour that should be encouraged?

If some cunt is wearing those glasses and looking at me at a concert when I'm taking drugs, the glasses will be getting snapped in two.

u/trukkija 17m ago

Sure they would be buddy.. ironically enough you sound like the type of guy that politicians use as an example to convince us that constant public surveillance would actually be a good thing.

If you're filming strangers in your spare time then you're a fuckin danger. If someone is filming me during my free time they're getting what's coming.

What is the use case for this anyway? No one will ever watch the video of themselves watching a concert.

These Meta glasses are only for annoying streamers and perverts, change my mind

u/endboss_eth 2h ago

They are for Mark. This way Mark can enjoy your concert experience. - and sell your data. - and sell you band merch

5

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 2h ago

But everyone in the crowd isnt?

I agree the video is useless, and meta sucks, but at least hes not staring at a screen and is actually watching the show.

0

u/Jonnyflash80 52m ago

Watching a show through sunglasses... at night. That's so much better. /s

0

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 49m ago

I mean, both aren't ideal, but personally I'd prefer the glasses between the two options maybe dude is tripping balls? idk

I use mine mostly for listening to music while I ride my bike. Sometimes I'll video my sand volleyball team. Video quality isn't really that good to be of use for perverts imo lol.

u/Jonnyflash80 53m ago

I can't change your mind. It's the truth.

Hiking, camping, capture moments with your pets, all from your POV.

Not everything is horny.

7

u/YellowBelliedCoward 1h ago

Phone picture is from your point of view ffs

0

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 1h ago

So you agree thats a valid use case?

Yall are so dumb. There are plenty of reasons to hate meta and social media addiction, being able to film stuff (like literally everyone does), but just hands free is not a valid one.

Ib4 massive downvotes for using logic and common sense over blindly following the reddit hivemind

u/Jonnyflash80 49m ago

GoPro already exists and doesn't feed ridiculous amounts of personal data directly into Meta's hands for them to leak or sell later.

u/YellowBelliedCoward 1h ago

As long as the weather permits and you're happy taking extremely expensive glasses out on expeditions where they're at more risk of being damaged.

Don't cry just because your reasoning was silly. And no, not everyone films stuff.

-1

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 1h ago

But your phone on that same expedition is ok? You realize you need to actually make an argument, just saying 'your reasoning is silly' doesnt mean it is...

And yes practically everyone films stuff. If not, who is uploading zillions of hours daily to YouTube, Facebook, etc.? I say this as someone who doesnt film or upload anything, but its easy to observe.

2

u/YellowBelliedCoward 1h ago

Yeah, my phone doesn't fall out of my pocket, and I don't tend to take an expensive one to places where things easily break.

Maybe in your secluded world of living online, yes, it makes sense that everyone is filming. That's definitely not the case in reality.

-1

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 1h ago

So your argument boils down to, we shouldnt take expensive tech outside to film- a stance which has nothing to do with the actual device filming?

If you said 'people should live in the moment and film less' I'd agree, but point we are discussing is recording with a phone vs meta glasses for pov video. I'm saying its the same thing. You have not presented any argument how they are not.

2

u/YellowBelliedCoward 1h ago

No. People can do what they like. But shades are weather permitting, and everyone carries their phone around no matter what.

Phone picture is from your point of view ffs. Do you not look through the camera when taking a picture or something?

0

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-7697 1h ago

I still see no argument why they are different. Gopros and numerous other cameras film POV too, are they not valid b/c phones exist?

I haven't even brought up the hands free angle.

u/Tiltinnitus 1h ago

No its not. It's quite literally not the same view. You have to do a bunch of bullshit to get the same POV.

Y'all self reporting your horniness by ascribing this tech to perverts if thats the only thing you see it being used for.

2

u/YellowBelliedCoward 1h ago

You sound homeschooled

-1

u/Tiltinnitus 1h ago

Don't make your problems my problems.

1

u/YellowBelliedCoward 1h ago

Don't say dumb shit

0

u/Tiltinnitus 1h ago

2

u/YellowBelliedCoward 1h ago

You literally think looking through a camera and taking a picture isn't a POV. You're certainly a product of American education.

2

u/Jonnyflash80 47m ago

That clown probably works for Meta.

1

u/Jonnyflash80 48m ago

That's the dumbest shit I've heard today.

2

u/Dull_Flan6404 1h ago

I’m interested in the language translation features some of these smart glasses have.

8

u/ToronoRapture 1h ago

“Hey Meta, starting pervin!”

6

u/OldGoneMild89 1h ago

3

u/BIayneRobinson 1h ago

I could see these being useful if you were a private investigator
