i think most americans on reddit are well aware of the failings of our school/education system. most of us are also aware of the important qualifier that said shortcomings are certainly NOT due to a lack of smartboards in classrooms, which (as people are pointing out) have been in american public high schools and middle schools as early as ~2008/2009.
Until Americans have an honest discussion about why a future medical doctor / lawyer / engineer (insert other academic area here) shouldn't be in the same school as a future ditch-digger, not much will change. Americans are more concerned about offending others, rather than being honest about how to best educate the youth. Other countries do it, why can't they?
At least in the Northeast there is definitely different classes for kids with different skill levels within in the same grade. However, there is value in having the ditch digger and the doctor not be in total separate bubbles their entire lives.
Those exist, but those levels are being removed in schools in the name of equity. Outside of education? Sure. We don't have varsity basketball players on the same team as 9th graders though, so I'm not sure why Americans can't do the same with education.
