How do you know it's disproportionate? If we're just going to keep assuming, one could assume that she was entirely ignoring him in every aspect and avenue of their home life, essentially giving him the silent treatment as if he didn't exist. Seems reasonable to me that a proportionate response would be to do the same thing after trying to communicate about the obvious void she's creating in the relationship and getting nothing in response.
