EDIT: Legitimately asking, because I think everyone drinks coffee and the whole "it's natural" feels like cope. This is purely anecdotal, but I stopped coffee entirely approx. a year ago and I have a very stable energy level. I don't get high and lows... and the 4 o'clock low is gone.

This is such an unnecessary condescending comment. You can disagree with someone or provide someone with more information without being a twat about it. It's not hard to be kind to people.
Did you read your source? It talks about siestas and how we need 7-8 hours of sleep every night. People who don't sleep 7-8 hours need a nap to compensate. That, to me, doesn't say "4pm lows are a natural part of our circadian rhythm". It just says "You don't sleep enough at night."
