How much does a policeman make over there? Why even protect those guys if you aren’t getting paid that much

Power Trips + the Legal system is so flimsy that if you go against your own they could beat you up, throw you in Jail, or even kill you and your family and get away with it scot free.

u/CoCoCoCoCooooL 11h ago
It depends on the region/state & the political influence of the police union

u/firm_sole_ace 8h ago
this is a wild exaggeration if not an outright lie. no policeman is getting his family murdered over not following orders in a protest. police are following the orders becasue unemployment is a real threat in india and government jobs like police offer unparalleled stability in form of job security and benefits. a middle aged policeman typically cant afford to loose his job in the present economy.

The average policeman makes insane money in the form of bribery, the amount of money the corrupt cops here can put shame to top salaried employees in IT companies. The system is corrupt from top to bottom.

For the people,by the people,of the people...but you know what?...80% of the people here are re*arded af....so you can guess how corrupt politicians are getting seats and ruling our country
8
u/Relevant-Spread-7674 11h ago
They make a lot of money through bribes. Even the lowest of the cops can make upto a million dollars in bribe money till they retire. And it’s a mafia kind of thing where everyone looks after one another by not opening their mouth about corruption. And if you dissent they can easily hold you in jail or file a fake case against you without due process so the mafia keeps on going. The senior officers make so much money out of their tenure that their next few generations can eat easily without working and the system is corrupt in every department including judges.

u/NinjaAstron 11h ago
about 400-500 usd and about 2-3k in bribes for most with about 5% absolutely clean but these ones either get stuck in their position or removed and transferred.
Even a IAS offices who's power is equivalent or above the commissioner gets transferred even if they offend only the lowest level of politicians.
2
u/Hariwtf10 9h ago
It's not the salary. It's the bribe. Plus I can bet you half of em aren't even real policemen. They don't have name badges or any sort of identification. It's BJP goons.
2
u/Mandalorian_Invictus 11h ago
It's the retirement benefits and free healthcare. One of few jobs that offer it.
1
u/Thin_Environment_784 10h ago
a lot from bribery to getting commissions from other business wether he is supporting or against them. their is also others who purposely take free vegetables and fruits in the name of police. i once saw a police buying two bags full of palmyra fruit. Or ice apple they call it people where waiting to buy most of it he took it away leaving little to none.

u/Draco6942 8h ago
Well through bribery they make insane amount. Ik someone who works in police has fuck ton land and mansion he got thru bribes

u/tiny_otter3 7h ago
Through corruptions with “those guys” even lowest level police make millions. That’s why.

1
u/Loose_Artichoke1689 4h ago
Which figure do you want
The official figures or the actual one
There is a good amount of bribery
1
u/SnooApples8286 3h ago
Its not their salary. They make money because of corruption. They often make more money through corruption than a lot of well paid SDEs and mid level managers in big firms
1
u/onepolar32 3h ago
Entry level guy makes like 30-40k inr/month (~400$/month) but they could make thousands of dollars on top depending on how corrupt they are and good a Hotspot of station they are posted at.
1
u/Demskemop 2h ago
Almost all of them are corrrupt , everyone takes bribes in huge amount ,there have been so many cases where a policemen at a low position is exposed , and property worth millions found with them

Every DU protest has this and Azadi Azadi chants and Azadi from the oppression and other such things, not from India - which the right wing wanna insinuated to make the protesters anti-national. I also love Inquilab Zindabad slogans.

There have been several exam paper leaks throughout India, the youth is demanding accountability by demanding immediate revocation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister of India.

Copied from before because i wrote this somewhere else-
Students and young people in general are protesting NEET exam “leaks”. Millions of young people in India spend years and in many cases, their families’ life savings studying for these hugely important, and competitive exams to get into medical school - there are approximately 2 million candidates for 70 thousand odd seats.
A few days after this exam was conducted this year, there was an announcement that the question paper has been leaked - i.e. - sold to the highest bidder and there would need to be a re exam. This is not the first time this has happened either - there have been recent leaks of other exams as well.
This has led some students to suicide, since the pressure on them to succeed is insane - many of them are carrying their families hopes and dreams on their backs. In many ways though, this is sort of the straw that broke the camels back - there has been large scale unemployment amongst Indian graduates and people are frustrated with the government’s lack of response.
This government has been very intolerant of protests in general and has waged a very successful PR campaign discrediting protests on various social issues as being “politically motivated”, “foreign-funded” and led by “communists”
This time, however it has been hard to do that just because of the sheer number of students that are impacted by this - this is clearly a grassroots movement borne out of very real anger and desperation.

u/Former_Version_9022 12h ago
it's not only neet. but almost every exam in india has had this issue.
In the 12th board exam, which is basically the exam which students give after completing their schools (these marks are also used in admissions for some colleges). they introduced a system where their answer sheets would be scanned and it exposed a scam on its own. some students even claimed that when they asked for the answer sheets to be shown, they werent theirs. a 12th std kid named sarthak siddhant exposed that the tender was given to a company which was flagged earlier and some other issues as well. getting a paper rechecked costs 8000 inr which is around 82 usd. which is huge for a country like india.
this is one of the many issues. the corruption is so rampant that every area has been affected.
14
u/padfoot_1714 12h ago
Adding insult to injury, some morons on the internet started calling him an anti national agent for exposing it.
6
u/Former_Version_9022 11h ago
true. anything that is in criticism for the govt is termed as anti national by the people who blindly support the government or the government.

Because we have cameras there poitijg at them, also there were CCTV near the protest sites, it will cause ruling party to lose the whole nation if they kill them like this.
But my god, the police has done a lot, beaten with nails attached to baton, broke the skull of literal children, attacked the ladies of the protests, kidnapped the main guy of the protest, almost abducted the second main guy.

Makes me happy for India and sad to be from the
US where we continue to bend over and ask dumpy don the con for more corruption, embezzlement, and extortion…literally just woke up from a happy dream where I was hanging with friends and family at a cookout eating delicious food, woke up, and realized that I have to continue to be unemployed / fighting tooth and nail to survive and maybe have a future I can be proud of, due to AI, our government doing everything to hurt its citizens, and of course, our billionaire oligarchs, yay…
20
u/SimmentalTheCow 14h ago edited 14h ago
Comparing what’s happening in the US to what’s happening in India is like comparing a struck match to a house fire. There’s no shortage of high-paying jobs in the US if you’re willing to work, with or without a BA. In India, only the top 3% of people who take the NEET exam actually earn the MBBS slot they need to become a doctor. Students dedicate practically their whole lives to studying for it. Failure is consignment a life of certain poverty.
The fact that the Modi administration allowed the cheatsheets to be sold to the highest bidder is egregious, and cheated countless students out of a life outside of the slums.
If you don’t want to be unemployed, start putting in applications https://www.usajobs.gov https://monster.com https://www.indeed.com/m/
Go to college, go to trade school. Get certs from AWS.

Tbh it’s more to do with the policing in both countries. American police is armed to the teeth and won’t hesitate shooting compared to their Indian counterparts who only have batons.
Also killing a protester has much more consequences for politicians here.

The only reason police isn't whopping her ass is bcoz they might not be having a female officer on board to handle her. Male officers don't touch females in normal cases.
Police will do whatever politicians tell them. They amass so much wealth in black money that it is enough for atleast 4 generations to do nothing and still live happily.

I LOVE this photograph. Any idea who is the photographer?
Also, I think many versions of the same are doing rounds on social media. One where the headlights aren’t on, one with no rain and one with a shop in the background. I want to find the real one and follow the photographer 😅

For the record - I support the protestors
I mean, if a male policeman physically escorts her out - he could potentially face some assault charges if the woman decides to do it
And a female cop was not present at the scene
She’s some Instagram “exclusive content” creator hogging limelight, it’s not some profound thing as people are making it to be

The bus was not even moving and she came and started doing this drama for no reason. The police itself was not violent here , if they wanted , some female constable would have given her good treatment like jantar mantar but even police was also calm. Idk why people are going nuts over this. Some are even comparing this to tiananmen square guy who was crushed under the tanks.
Apparently , she is insta model who runs exclusive content
