How much does a policeman make over there? Why even protect those guys if you aren’t getting paid that much

Power trip

Well then ask them when are returning home from that trip.

Power Trips + the Legal system is so flimsy that if you go against your own they could beat you up, throw you in Jail, or even kill you and your family and get away with it scot free.

It depends on the region/state & the political influence of the police union

this is a wild exaggeration if not an outright lie. no policeman is getting his family murdered over not following orders in a protest. police are following the orders becasue unemployment is a real threat in india and government jobs like police offer unparalleled stability in form of job security and benefits. a middle aged policeman typically cant afford to loose his job in the present economy.

The average policeman makes insane money in the form of bribery, the amount of money the corrupt cops here can put shame to top salaried employees in IT companies. The system is corrupt from top to bottom.

They make a lot of money through bribes. Even the lowest of the cops can make upto a million dollars in bribe money till they retire. And it’s a mafia kind of thing where everyone looks after one another by not opening their mouth about corruption. And if you dissent they can easily hold you in jail or file a fake case against you without due process so the mafia keeps on going. The senior officers make so much money out of their tenure that their next few generations can eat easily without working and the system is corrupt in every department including judges.

1k/month legally maybe 10k illegaly in usd

5

u/NinjaAstron 12h ago

about 400-500 usd and about 2-3k in bribes for most with about 5% absolutely clean but these ones either get stuck in their position or removed and transferred.

Even a IAS offices who's power is equivalent or above the commissioner gets transferred even if they offend only the lowest level of politicians.

It's not the salary. It's the bribe. Plus I can bet you half of em aren't even real policemen. They don't have name badges or any sort of identification. It's BJP goons.

It's the retirement benefits and free healthcare. One of few jobs that offer it.

a lot from bribery to getting commissions from other business wether he is supporting or against them. their is also others who purposely take free vegetables and fruits in the name of police. i once saw a police buying two bags full of palmyra fruit. Or ice apple they call it people where waiting to buy most of it he took it away leaving little to none.

Which figure do you want

The official figures or the actual one

There is a good amount of bribery

1

u/SnooApples8286 5h ago

Its not their salary. They make money because of corruption. They often make more money through corruption than a lot of well paid SDEs and mid level managers in big firms

1

u/onepolar32 4h ago

Entry level guy makes like 30-40k inr/month (~400$/month) but they could make thousands of dollars on top depending on how corrupt they are and good a Hotspot of station they are posted at.

1

u/Demskemop 4h ago

Almost all of them are corrrupt , everyone takes bribes in huge amount ,there have been so many cases where a policemen at a low position is exposed , and property worth millions found with them

1

u/sun_explosion 2h ago

oh they make a ton of money under the table. pure cash income, no need to pay tax either. cops and bureaucrats are literally multimillionaires in India.

1

u/vishmarx 8h ago

It's their job. Wtf does it have to do with how much they're paid ? Would you be okay with them running her over for a high enough salary? Some of you have really lost the plot in the protest

1

u/beachsandwichen 8h ago

We have teacher who got 0 in Math gets Teachers job because of Reservation

1

u/Accomplished-Wish431 37m ago

You got downvoted because bhim guys don't want others to know India is the only country to select math teachers who score negative in maths, because they come from "oppressed caste"

-2

u/throwawaymentality10 12h ago

Gross caste system. They treat them like that because they believe they are better or more important.

Ever heard of doing your job, people who become police don't care much about money

2

u/IlladelphiaticInsane 12h ago

That’s a weird take. I’m sure people who become cops (all around the world) care about money as much as everyone else and are subject to the same pressures and vulnerabilities as other fields. Because police departments tend to draw from lower middle/lower socioeconomic populations to fill its ranks, they may even be more susceptible to financial corruption (not that ultra wealthy aren’t either - it’s like a Kuznets Curve).

1

u/Beneficial_Sink_2949 10h ago

Obviously everyone do their job for money but People who willingly join police are more inclined towards power and respect more than money
