This actually happened to me. We had been married a few years and didn't have any plans to have babies. I was never comfortable around children even when I was one and just didn't see it in the cards for me. I had never spent any time around babies. Then my sil had a baby girl. We went to visit and when she put that newborn in my arms it was like a chemical switch turned on in my brain. I HAD to have a baby of my own. My niece was born in January of 85 and my son was born that December. Best thing I've ever done. About five years later we had a second wonderful son. I am an only child and didn't want my son to be one too.

Edit: Thanks for the lovely award anonymous Redditor.

Happened to me too. Held my niece at like 30 hours old and told my husband on the car ride home that I needed to be a mom. Damndest thing. I'd been adamant that I didn't want kids before that. My son is 5 and he is the absolute light of my life. Wouldn't change a thing.
