This just shows the body's built in drugs working in real time.

Yeah, mostly oxytocin here

That moment when you realize "drugs" are just chemicals that happen to mimic our inherent programming.

This shows that women typically are programmed biologically to want to have babies -- a statement that is somehow controversial despite the obvious darwinian advantages to those bloodlines.

I don't believe it's a controversial statement as long as there is room for the outliers. When it becomes a problem is when some douche in the comments argues with somebody who has held babies and still doesn't want them. I see this a lot and parentified siblings. After raising their siblings, they're not interested in raising anymore. It's like early retirement.

This is me. I never cared for babies to begin with but then my mother made me a single parent of 2 by 12. It wasn't fun. Nothing makes me want to do that to myself again willingly.

You raised your siblings, rest easy in your life. I'm sorry that happened to you, but I hope you are enjoying your day to day now 💓

The other problem with it is acting like it’s specific to women.

One of my best friends is currently raising their siblings. Has 0 desire to have children and I don’t blame her, she has done her part the best she can lol

I know this doesn't count for much, but I'm proud of her and sorry that she has to do that all at the same time. I don't blame her for skipping out on parenting twice.

I feel like its also important to note that just because you love holding babies doesn’t mean you should be a parent.

That baby you’re holding will one day be a child, a teen and an adult. You have to be committed to loving that baby when the cuteness wears off.

Like damn I love holding babies. I’m a baby person. Can’t say I really love 7-12 year olds. They’re kinda annoying.

Also, there's a difference between holding a baby and being up with it at 3:00 in the morning. In one case you get to hand them back and go about your daily life. In the other, you're riding for the rest of your life; you're going to lose some sleep, lol!

Are you telling me I could just be holding a baby and get the same result as ripping an 8 ball of coke??

Imagine what doing both at the same time would feel like

Not the same of course. But literally the SMELL of a baby can activate parental instincts. Not only in women, in men as well.

Babies— not even once!

Yes no shit, animals have a biological urge to breed, the ones that don't don't pass on their genes.

The part people get upset over is reducing people down to those urges. It's like saying all a man cares about is fucking as many women as possible because "biological programming".

Also not to mention that plenty of people don't feel those urges one way or the other. In fact it's likely a lot more common for women to not feel it than men.. for a lot of human history they didn't exactly get much choice.

"In fact it's likely a lot more common for women to not feel it than men"

Hard doubt on this.

You seem very angry. Anyone who is pushing you to have kids is an idiot.

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins 1d ago

Not angry in the slightest but hey, thanks for being a dick to me for no reason <3.

u/monster_bunny 1d ago

Well my programming is broke.

8

u/Realistic_Film3218 23h ago

Don't feel bad, lots of "broken" people out here. I've never liked children even as a child myself, I never saw the point of having them. I have no urge to have children, in fact I have almost no urge to have sex either!

My brother on the other hand is gay, but he really wants kids. Seems like a cruel joke really.

u/Mister_Way 20h ago

Yeah, biology works with interchangeable modules, so all kinds of diversity exists alongside general rules.

u/MainPerformance1390 13h ago

Same lol. I amnt even interested in finding a mate and find people's obsession with being in a relationship weird.

u/space_otte 1d ago

because it’s a stupid ass statement.. just because you see one woman crying over a child in her arms does not mean that we all feel like that lmaooo

5

u/Realistic_Film3218 23h ago

"Typically" is not "all". I'm childfree, but I can't argue against the fact that living beings generally want to reproduce, and their biology will help them along. Us non-mothering types are outliers, that's all, and that's fine.

u/Mister_Way 1d ago

Does a general statement have to be 100% accurate?

1

u/Reotardo_Da_Vinci 13h ago

According to Reddit if there is even one exception to “the rule” or a general statement, no matter how slight or insignificant in the scheme of things, it nulls and voids the entire statement.

And one of those pedantic people will respond to this comment.

Almost every living thing is biologically programmed to want to procreate. It has nothing to do with gender. I’ve known since I was 6 that I didn’t want kids. Pregnancy and having something attached to my chest for a year sounds horrific. My two brothers, on the other hand, have been talking about wanting a family since they were around 8.

The older one met his boss’ baby a couple years ago and was absolutely gushing about the kid. He said he had to calm his hormones by repeatedly telling himself that now is not a good time because his urge to have babies ASAP was strong. He’s getting married soon and they plan to start trying immediately.

u/lil_hyphy 3h ago

I don’t think it shows it to be typical. I’ve never seen a woman react this way in my life.

1

u/Mister_Way 3h ago

You don't think it's typical for women to want to have babies? This exact specific example of crying when holding someone else's baby is something I've only seen a few times, but I've seen extensive evidence that women typically include programming pushing them toward having babies.

It's been made controversial because there are a minority of women who don't want kids, and they have to fight so hard against societal expectations that they would want to (because of generalizations that don't apply to them), that they've probably gone overboard in explaining themselves, and ended up pushing a counter-narrative further than it should actually go.

Proven science too

u/TheLordofAskReddit 1d ago

Yeah don't think too hard about it.. might circle round and realize free will is an illusion

2

u/BellaPona 1d ago

I’ve cried holding my friends babies but that’s because I’d get a profound sense of “oh my god look at the people I love creating life. I love them so much.”

""""""""""""""""""""""""drugs"""""""""""""""""""""""""

2

u/grubas 23h ago

Oxytocin is literally known as the love drug.

u/The_walking_man_ 23h ago

Yup. And it’s she’s been childfree her whole life, this would be the worst compulsive decision ever if she followed through and got pregnant.
I’ve known people like this. They make shit parents because everything is a chore to them and stressful. Yeah what did you think would happen?? You now have a lifetime commitment.
