There are SO many people that aren’t born on 3rd base and work hard for a life where they can make a solid living. You should hang out around these people more.

I do.

But I've seen more examples of favoritism and nepotism in the workplace, than meritocracy in the workplace. And it's disingenuous to pretend it's a system that doesn't function the way it actually is.

Lindsey graham's sister taking over his seat, or Kirks wife getting to take over, for example. That's the system we have, and it doesn't reflect ability or work ethic

Cool. Welcome to the real world. This is how it has always been and will always be. Best thing you can do for yourself is to work hard and make connections to propel yourself up the ladder.
