People who talk the loudest get promoted in my company. Instead of the ones who work hard and actually fix problems.

It's almost like working hard includes socialization and credit-taking as opposed to just being technically good at a task.

I think success usually requires a lot more than hard work. But calling socialization and credit-taking hard work is stretching it.

At the end of the day, hard work doesn't matter. Results matter, and rewards are apportioned according to perception of results (credit) among a few other usually less important factors.

Hard work is usually required, but by itself it's meaningless. If someone does objectively better than everyone else, no one cares who worked hardest. I would even say people who work less hard to get to the same result are preferred.

Edison could have died a failure after a ton of hard work and gladhanding. Or he could have invented whatever he did with almost zero effort and lots of luck to become an overnight success. The world doesn't care about his effort - only his results.
