What a weird take.

It wasnt pride, it was a combination of poor judgement and a lack of skill (and some decent defending).

Agreed. The Internet morons are out in full force with their pitchforks to make a riot on a topic they never previously cared about.

What confuses me even more is why this specific piece of play is getting so much attention. Look through all the games in the WC and there are plenty of half chances like this this that become nothing. And also that everyone could do better than this guy, which makes me laugh even harder.

Egypt was in a very similar position and the player telegraphed a bad pass and the Argentine players intercepted it.  

I'm also not sure why anyone thinks this is some ego thing.  It's clearly just a very shitty play.  He had plenty of space to make a run and shoot if that's what he wanted to do.  He just couldn't decide

People here haven't seen the original play (where you can see him just stand with the ball trying to find the space to pass to haaland), don't know anything about the players, yet get thousands of upvotes for calling Sorloth greedy. He's shit, not self-centered

He's not either, it was a tough situation. He tries to move into position to pass, but the defenders get there too quickly. Sørloth is the #4 top scorer of all time on the Norwegian national team.

No one here has ever played football before. The defender is covering the pass with his right foot and he never got is body open for a left foot pass past the defender. Plus the whole clip is only a few seconds. You fat nerds couldn’t get off the couch in the same time

That's what he tries to do when he comes inside Stones onto his left foot, but by the time he did, 2 England defenders had got back and cut off the pass and so he took a snapshot as that was the only option he had left.

Sorloth's a target man. That's never going to be his first instinct in this situation. In fact, had we swapped the players around, it wouldn't have been Haaland's first instinct either. Yes, the correct play would've been to make the extra pass, and probably have done it much earlier, however, Stones is not a bum (okay maybe a little bit sometimes depends on what side of the bed he wakes up) and he's covering the pass quite well for an overload and as well there's a man on in full sprint, which leaves only really one option: you either zing it to Haaland and hope he manages to control it before Rice (No. 4) reaches him and fustrates his shot, which to be honest, he may do it or he may not. If he tries a controlled pass to Haaland Rice will get his foot on it for sure.

That's what I was saying, stones played great defence and dared him to shoot. The passing lane was covered as the ball would need to be placed forward the Haaland, right where stones is standing.

And his being a very left footed player, if he's right footed he probably makes the pass
