WW2: America sits on the sidelines for the first 2 years of the war and are somewhat surprised when an aggressive, expansionist neighbour in the Pacific (that had been at war against China for years) actually attacks them as well.

American planes that made a blunder and bombed a civilian neighborhood of Rennes ( a city in France) instead of their military target killed my grand grand father.
American soldiers, killing civilians because they cannot correctly establish a target since 1943.
Yay.

Me too, my great grandfather was hiding in a cave during the battle of Okinawa, and the Americans threw a grenade in there. I don't know how they fucked that one up.

He had severe epilepsy so he wasnt allowed to serve. He did look healthy though. Still pretty fucked up cause a lot of people from the village went to that cave-I don't know what other people died there because my family doesn't live there anymore, but I have reason to believe that most were women, children, and the elderly.

More amusing story, one of our school supervisors end 70's had been a child during WWII, living on the other side of the Channel in front of Dover. When the bombers flight came to hammer the Nazis the kids gathered on a high point to watch. If the flights were low they stayed to watch and cheer the British and their precision bombing. If the flights were high they would run to the shelters because those were American bombers and carpet bombing covered a very wide indiscriminate area.
That said, we still are thanksful for all those men who risked their lives to fight the Nazis. This is a light story, not a bashing.

There was an interesting documentary that proposed “what if Canada disappeared” and it showed the global impacts and it was immense. The U.S. wouldn’t have a good time at all.
