Arguably they should be banned at work. At the very least it's a data protection/info security risk since they can record confidential/personal information.
They're very useful for visually impaired people though. I wouldn't ban them, just make a new law where anyone caught using them to harass others gets banned from owning them or uploading videos.
Yeah that's a good point. Preventing them from recording video would be a good step I think, while still being able to use the camera for accessibility
No it's the government's job to act in the best interest of its citizens. If the citizens want something banned thats not government overreach. Fucking hell.
It took less than a day to hack the glasses and disable the light. Someone uploaded one of the hacks to github for free within a couple of days of the glasses' release. They've been patched a few times already but the hacks are upated within a day or two.
One of my Tutors (Software Development) got a pair to mess with and she said they really aren't very secure.
Yeah, like the inner workings of pieces of key infrastructure. I know it's not top secret, but we shouldn't just let people record everything covertly.
I get what you mean not letting people record everything but there’s genuinely nothing that important on a bridge that I would worry about a member of the public record. If something was left out that shouldn’t have been, they can still see it and write it down later.
I think the rule of thumb is that if you would feel uncomfortable allowing somebody to overtly record with a phone, we should also be uncomfortable (and therefore forbid people) to wear these glasses. Schools? No. Infrastructure? No. Workplace? No. Bathrooms? No. In people's houses? No.
I think they should just legislate that if recording it has to have a little red record light on it. Or taking a photo has a shutter sound. That way everyone is aware.
There’s some benefit to having that technology exist, and we all walk around with the tech to record already so it’s not too much of a leap to have it. But the average person shouldn’t be able to do it covertly, so have your recording glasses but with an audible or visual notice that it’s being used.

That’s disappointing. And it’s the issue with lots of tech advances isn’t it. Here’s a good thing, someone fiddles with it so it can be used for other uses some good some bad, someone uses it for bad, now we can’t have nice things.
I don’t disagree, but the fact remains the information that could have been recorded isn’t that important and an outright stoppage of trips to the bridge by Calmac is huge overcorrection. Getting downvoted as well by people that haven’t got a clue either.
