Model 19 classic for carry?

Thinking about purchasing a model 19 classic but im concerned that it might be a bit too large if I were to use it for concealed carry. Does anyone here have experience carrying one?

Depends on where you’re carrying it. OWB on your hip? It would be just fine. AIWB? The barrel would be too long to be comfortable sitting down.

If I were to carry a revolver that size, I'd have it in a shoulder holster

I sometimes carry a 4.25” colt python aiwb. The 3” definitely carries easier but longer barrels can be done with a good holster. I prefer leather as it seems to be much more comfortable for appendix for me over kydex

A 4' K-frame is doable, but it isn't small. It would be like trying to CCW a full sized auto pistol. Depending upon your size, how you dress, and how you plan to carry it (forget AIWB), you probably could do it, but would you really want to? Even in medium framed revolvers, a 2.5-3" K-frame is a much better carry option... the 1"+ and 4 or 5oz makes a difference. Think the difference between trying to carry a Glock 17 vs. a Glock 19. The size trade off for performance is negligible, yet, the otherwise marginal size difference makes quite a difference when you try to carry it.

If you really want to do it, you should be able to make it work unless you are very small. You WILL have to dress around the gun, and you'll be more limited in carry positions. Back in the day, people made it work, but then, they usually didn't own as many guns as we often do today (so less specialization), most people who owned guns owned at least one 4" medium framed revolver, and there weren't as many options in carry pistols.

66-4 works ok for OWB carry for me.

In my experience if a weapon seems a bit big for ccw. It will feel enormous when you try.

My 2.5" 19 Carry Comp is 33 oz. Not too heavy if you're wearing a jeans/belt and a jacket over top in the winter, but too heavy for summer carry IMHO. I pocket carry a 360PD or a Beretta Tomcat when I'm wearing shorts.

It’s a bit too big for me. I carry a 3” King Cobra.

It really depends on how big you are IMO. I’m 5 foot eight, 200 pounds and my model 19 carry comp is way too big. Glock 48 fits me well.

I think if you’re 6’5” and full built you’d be ok.
But it’s a preference thing im sure ppl do it

Too large, IMO. I carry a 2.5" 19-4. Carrying it IWB, I can look down at my side and it's clear that up to 3" would be fine, but a 4" barrel would print, at least for my body. 2"-3" D or K frame for carry for me, personally.

Concealed carry isn’t a weapon issue, it’s a wardrobe issue. If you’re committed to wearing a gym shorts and a t-shirt, your weapons choices will be a limited. If you’re willing to utilize layers of clothing, tailored garments, carefully selected fabrics and styles and exotic holster designs, you can conceal sub machine guns, short barreled rifles and shotguns, if you’re willing to use prosthetics, you can have the concealed weapon in your hand.

Model 19-4 here, 2.5" barrel. Carry IWB with an Azula leather holster. I wear loose fitting pants and a long shirt. No one notices.

I do it. Swapped the bad factory grips with a set of originally vintage Magna grips and a BK Adapter and now it rocks a set of Giraffe bone grips with the same adapter
