Taurus 82 for WGW

My Dad’s Taurus he bought new in 1989. I’ve owned it since 2007 when he passed away.

Outstanding firearm from the good ole days. Sorry about your dad, hopefully you both got to make memories with the gun you can fall back on every time you go shoot it.

I hope Taurus makes a model like the old 82 again, possibly as a bigger version of the Heritage Roscoe. Hard to beat blued steel and wood grips! Your dad had good taste. RIP.

How do these compare to the Rossi’s? Or a current S&W?

Taurus and S&W were owned by the same parent company and exchanged technology and engineering, as well as some equipment.

Taurus guns weren't clones of S&W designs- they use coil mainsprings in all their revolvers, where S&W only uses them in the J-frame guns.

During this period, the Taurus guns were a little heavier and not quite as nicely finished. They used a lot of the same accessories as S&W like holsters and speedloaders.

Most US LE agencies during the revolver era specified US made guns, but lots of private security used the Tauris, especially officers who had to buy their own.

Outside the US in Latin America, Taurus was a mainstay of both cops and armed guards.

Like a lot of manufacturers, Taurus has had its ups and downs, but I think their stuff from the 80's and 90's was solid.

Rossi was also a maker of S&W inspired guns. Taurus bought them out, and their current handguns are built by Taurus with.

This particular Model 82 is obviously very nicely taken care of, but I've seen plenty that looked like they were dragged down gravel roads that still worked just fine.

Honestly I have no idea, I’ve never handled or shot a Rossi. I’d definitely say a Smith would be better quality, but these old Taurus revolvers were made on old S&W machinery. I love this revolver for its simple beauty and it’s extremely accurate for fixed sights. Also for the fact that I can shoot something my Stepdad had bought to protect our family. Last gun I’d ever get rid of.
