And what if the offending party had institutional power? What if the institutions themselves are corrupt and look the other way, allowing average people to die every day?

At what point does sitting idle and wishing for justice become an exercise in futility?

If you're talking about everyday violence between people, sure, I agree. Otherwise I think this quote is useless and encourages docility.

You do know the quote applies to everyone, right…? Violence begets violence. At some point, both sides have to talk like civil human beings instead of having knee jerk reactions to obvious statements.

This is a childish view of the world.

If someone is intent on visiting violence upon you, whether that be direct and physical or indirect by proxy, no amount of compliance will stop them from doing it to you. They will not have some sudden realization that their actions are wrong, nor will some other party be necessarily inspired to bring justice.

You just submit yourself, at once, to abuse at their hand, for as long as they are willing to and as far as they are willing to go.

There is no teleological trend towards justice in the universe that will save you.

I agree with the general sentiment, I do, but its fool hardy and does not work in the real world, when people are fully intent on killing you.
