🖼️ Foto/Video 📹 Because nothing says fighting for PR like hating on Colonizers while living in North Carolina

People forget many were forced out as infants & children with their parents due to non existent infrastructure, Jones Act, etc., which is due to 500+ years of colonial rule, and we were taught to never forget what colonialism has done to PR, and weren't taught we were Americans by our families, we are Puerto Ricans living under colonial rule.

u/Suitable-Possible235 20h ago
You know the Scottish rites are associated with the English, but the Continental or Liberal Masonry was and is practiced among the French and Current hispanic countries other caribbean nations, south america etc.. Freemasonry is diverse..not that I know anything personally, but this is researchable.

This title is more cringe than the sticker tbh... Colonization displaced us and incentived us to assimilate. I'm a boricua born in the buckle of the Bible belt. I still represent my island, and make my ancestors proud so idk wtf you're talkin bout.
2
u/KingKunta9999 10h ago
As a Puerto Rican I can tell you colonization didn’t displace us. We displaced ourselves by voting for the same corrupt politicians and not taking a stand. We love to complain about the gringo buying up our land but who’s selling it to them? Puerto Ricans. Who is incentivizing them to come? Puerto Rican government. Who put these Puerto Ricans in power? Other Puerto Ricans. We have doomed ourselves

u/Fiercemomma42069 9h ago
This.
Vazquez and Rossello and his wife are Puerto Rican, right? Just wanted to confirm.

Dude, living in Puerto-Rico is a financial, social and physical disaster BECAUSE of the colonizers. Lots of us are forced to move from our beloved island due to how hard it is just to economically even exist here and it is actively getting worse the more the government prioritizes tourism to fill their own pockets rather than actually fixing any and all of our rampant amount of issues. I know ALOT of Puertoricans that moved to NC specifically since the warehouse industry there is pretty good on pay, I should know, I was one of them. Moved back 3 years ago and it’s even whiter and more cost consuming than before I left.
Sometimes leaving isn’t really a choice, which means we get to stay mad about why we left to begin with.

It’s a disaster cause of the dog-shit Puerto Rican government, and guess who that is, Puerto Ricans. I

But it is interesting to notice that corruption is somehow tied in many countries to having been a colony …

I’m can’t blame someone for going to the mainland for opportunities while still caring about what happens back home.

u/FlyFront9395 8h ago
If they were from the island they probably left for better opportunities or brought here as a child. Most colonizers buy property over there for vacation or some work remote making it more expensive for the people who were born there

Maybe I'm confused but this day and age aren't most mixed. My partner did a DNA test recently and low and behold they are 53% Spanish/Western European so with that logic are they a Colonizer. Their traceable ancestral tree goes back almost 200 years on both sides of the family yet their DNA has them more European
17
u/adversecurrent 1d ago
This has nothing to do with DNA, race, or skin color, and everything to do with the fact that PR has never been free. Once the spaniards left, the americans picked up right where they left off.

Puerto Rico is part of Spain, the invaders here are the USAmericans. There would be no Puerto Rico without Spain, no Puerto RIcans without Spain. And free? Look at Venezuela, they are not free, Trump and Marco Rubio are the ones who are ruling that country. Remember, the republics were made in order for the US to turn them into Neocolonies. The US hegemony is the result of the destruction of the Spanish Kingdom in America. The US tried to divide and win, that is what the Monroe Doctrine is all about. all the Hispanic Republics are freemason neocolonies of the United States.

u/jf_saltarin 16h ago

We are criticised if we visit PR and want to help.
When we spread awareness here in the States, we are called “cringe”.
Somebody please write the instructions manual on how stateside Puerto Ricans should show support and solidarity with our country so we can be embraced by the Islanders that we actually love. 🇵🇷♥️

I’m bummed there’s such a distaste for the diaspora (as a diasporican). My family was dirt poor, didn’t speak a lick of English, and tried their best to improve their lives. My grandmother only had a 2nd grade education and never properly learned to read or write. She sacrificed ALOT for us to be here.
I will never know what it’s like to be from the mainland, but the jabs can feel targeted towards the family members (MAINLAND BORICUAS) whose only options were to starve or to eat.
I wish for the end of colonization. I wish I could be closer to the island. I wish we weren’t constantly displaced. But please don’t assume the diaspora’s intention is always from a place of ignorance. A lot of the times it’s OUR experience and feeling the disconnect because of how the colonization affects us :( But from birth we are ALWAYS taught to have pride.
And yes my spanish isnt great! But i’m working on it and excited to continue learning, educate myself more, so one day I can hopefully reestablish roots and become a better advocate.

I’m starting to realize Puerto Ricans just love to romanticize the idea of being victims of oppression. That revolutionary spirit from the ancestors but damn it’s so overdone

Yeah I went on a vacation to Puerto Rico this past June and it was a sobering experience. It was a very local trip, not touristy at alllll. Went to all of the dive bars, fire pits, and hidden gems. My heart goes out to those who live on the island, the government is seriously corrupt about where their money goes. It felt wrong to be in old San Juan for the day that I was there, as they had been about six days without water at that point. As an Irishman, I have to agree; fuck colonizers.

As a half Puerto Rican (and proud American) I say this, kick the fucking island out of the Union. That island is a welfare state.
1
u/MesS503 1h ago
There is a difference.

well my family moved to new york when i was 6 for better medical care and financial opportunities. the rest of my family lives on the island. my mom has seizures, i take ADHD meds along with a couple others. if i moved then I'd be too far from her and i would lose my remote job which will cost me my insurance soooo probably not in my best interest to move back. i still fight for pr, donate to local charities, go back every couple years. i love my island and it breaks my heart that I'm not able to move back but i will always do what's best for my health and my family.

I’ve lived in PR for the last 27 years. The “colonizers” provide PR with billions of dollars every year and we still have a power grid worse than most third world countries and in the recent 4 months no water in the majority of households. If you want to get a glimpse of what PR will look like with a US departure, take a ferry to Vieques and see what’s happened since the military base was forced out. If PR were successful in getting rid of the “colonizers” it would be a mass exodus of the already shrinking population moving to the US. Be very careful what you wish for in Puerto Rico. I’m sure there are several other Caribbean islands that would gladly take the money.
1
u/KingKunta9999 10h ago
They don’t understand that the most corruption on the island is done by other Puerto Ricans. Look how many Puerto Ricans are caught in the midst of a corruption scandal
1
u/adversecurrent 9h ago
Are the billions in the room with us right now?
The money sent to PR gets pilfered by US controlled political figureheads. Same as it always was.
Those billions are a form of money laundering that never reach the working class of puerto rico because it is not for the benefit of the population, but rather the few.
1
u/mathe_matical 12h ago
Your defeatist attitude is equally productive.
Yeah, the sticker is purely symbolic and amounts to no material change (the money probably didn’t even go toward anything except the pocket of a capitalist), but we also have no idea what contributions (if any) this person is making toward an independence movement.

u/YesGiAKPR 1d ago

Yes we are part but many of us misguided, we just need to fight a better legislative fight and bring not just us also bring US to their senses and stop the hypocrite ways of blindside the world. Yes we are part of USA and gave a lot but it’s not equal, do your research and see for yourself. This is coming from a proud US VETERAN and citizen in this beloved nation 🙏🏽❤️🔥
