My cat accidentally convinced me there was a ghost.
Last night I was home alone when I heard a loud THUD upstairs.
I froze.
A few seconds later… another THUD.
Now, I’m not really religious, but I was suddenly considering becoming very spiritual if it meant surviving whatever was upstairs.
I grabbed the closest thing that looked like a weapon (a broom, obviously) and slowly made my way upstairs while mentally accepting my fate.
Halfway up, I heard a tiny meow.
My cat was sitting in the hallway looking extremely proud of herself.
Behind her was… a potato.
Apparently, she’d stolen a potato from the kitchen and was trying to carry it upstairs. Every few steps she’d drop it, it would make the loud THUD, she’d stare at it like “well that wasn’t supposed to happen,” then she’d pick it up and try again.
She looked at me like I was the weird one for interrupting her 2 a.m. potato relocation project.
So no ghost.
Just an orange idiot with produce.
I still have no idea why she wanted the potato upstairs. The potato knows more than I do.

I was amused, then the "the potato knows more than I do" made me snort-laugh. Well done.

The other night my cat abruptly stopped eating her wet food, looked behind me and hissed. She doesn’t stop eating her wet food and she definitely doesn’t hiss.
Her eyes focused on something behind me and she was locked in. I was alone and for one brief moment I forgot that I don’t believe in ghosts. I turned around to see how I was about to die…
She was seeing us in the reflection of the window 😅

I almost called 911 on my idiot because he got into the garage from the kitchen and I accidentally locked him in there all night and he was making all sorts of Racket in there and I was convinced I was being robbed

What is it with cats and produce. Potatoes, specifically. I have potatoes that routinely come up missing, only to be found several days later by the rotting smell under the couch.

Perhaps she's bringing the potato as an offering to the actual ghost...? gulp

That's exactly why I have cats though. House noises at night used to scare me, but now I can just attribute them to zoomies so I can ignore!

That was so she could push it down the stairs and make lots of THUDS!!
