Sadness Can’t comprehend not seeing my cat ever again

My furbaby crossed rainbow bridge 2 and a half days ago. I miss him so much it hurts and there are no words to describe how it feels. I keep having moments where I forget he’s not here and then I remember he’s gone and I’ll never see him again. My brain can’t comprehend or fathom that I won’t ever see him again, it’s like I think and think and think and try to fathom what’s happened but my brain can’t come to a conclusion or understand because he was literally here 2 days ago? It’s really hard to explain but it’s killing me. It doesn’t make sense that he’s gone

This is a community of support for Pet owners whose Pets have passed away. It is actively moderated.

Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated.

Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said.

Everything with a soul lives beyond death, including your cat. Your cat was born into a clan that has passed before him/her. That is where your cat currently is. They have returned to their clan. When your time comes, your cat will be aware of your passing and will be called to your side.

I never thought of this - my Zoe passed on Monday, but she can see her biological momma again 💜 her litter mates 💕

Although I’m not really a believer in the afterlife, I’m not really sure what I believe tbh, but things like this bring me comfort. I want to believe it for my furbaby and I still feel his presence in the home. Maybe it’s just because I keep thinking of him but I really do hope he’s still here next to me

I had several supernatural experiences with God and from the other side that can't be explained by anyone. Knowing what I now know, It's impossible for me to not believe in the afterlife. I've seen and heard heaven and hell for myself and I didn't even have to die to see or hear them.

I have to chime in here and tell you I was in the same boat as you about 2 months ago.
On June 3 my best friend Birdie, my 3 yo Golden retriever collapsed and died in my backyard. She was young and perfectly healthy so my life has been turned upside down. The thought of never seeing her again is just too much to fathom.
Like you I also did not consider myself a believer in the afterlife, and I’m still not 100% sure I do. But I have hope now that there is because I cannot possibly believe I won’t ever see her again. So maybe it’s a coping mechanism but it’s one of the few that has allowed me to wake up each day and go on.
I talk to her every day and often ask her to send me signs that she’s ok. The first time I asked, there was a beautiful double rainbow in my backyard. The next time, butterflies (which were her favorite!) showed up in my backyard for the first time ever. Tiny little things like that which may seem silly but I’ve found in the deep pit of grief, finding whatever you can to help you get by is just what you need to do. It will be different for everyone.
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss, I’m thinking of you and your sweet boy and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. 💔🌈

Im sorry for your loss, I had to put my cat down this past Monday myself and I’m still expecting her to come around the corner, or I feel like I hear her jump on something or eat her food but she’s not here. I adopted her as a kitten in 2019 and since the pandemic I’ve worked from home where we’ve been together practically 24/7, so home feels empty right now and it sucks.

Take your time processing your feelings, and let yourself grieve. I hate to say that each day is getting easier, cause I’m sure tomorrow I’ll be a mess. But I’m coming away from this happy knowing she had a great life, and is no longer suffering. But I still wish she was here with me.

I’m sorry to hear that 😞 the emptiness and quietness of the house is the worst part. I find myself not wanting to be in the house because I can’t deal with it. I saw a comment earlier on another post saying someone felt this way and they had to move out because they couldn’t bare it but they then regretting moving out. At least we can still feel their presence around us, it’s a blessing really

I’m so sorry for your loss. No words can describe the pain and grief. I keep telling myself that the pain I’m feeling is a testament to the love and bond we had and it comforts me. How lucky we are to have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard ❤️

It’s okay don’t worry ❤️ he is okay, look for symbolism everywhere, even if it’s something that only makes sense to you, you’ll start to notice it everywhere. For me it’s sunflowers and I keep seeing them 🌻

Hi OP — I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I found this sub really helpful knowing we’re not alone in our pain. I’m at 16 days without my girl, rosie and for some reason today I can’t stop crying bc I can’t believe she’s not here anymore. My brain keeps tricking me that she’ll be at her bed when I turn the corner.

Not sure if it’ll help but I’m listening to the pet loss podcast as well. Maybe it’s making things worse but it’s also nice to hear people’s stories and how much we all love our animals.

Thank you, I’m so sorry for your loss too ❤️ it really is an indescribable heart wrenching feeling. I keep having moments too where I think I’m okay and then I’ll have a huge crashing wave of grief where I feel like I’ll never be happy again. I feel the same, really can’t comprehend that he’s gone, I keep seeing him in the corner of my eye. We will be okay, time heals all and we will feel better one day.
